Now, I'm big fan of Tomcat, as anyone else, right, and being big fan of PR, one tend to think about F-14 in PR environment. This thinking is reinforced by the fact that there is awesome F-14 model out there. So, now, biggest question is how would RIO work, what would be his role in PR. This is just discussion thread, so feel free to give your ideas about it. F-14 would hardly end up in PR because of more reasons than lack of ideas what to do with RIO, rather not having giant Falklands like maps with pre 2006 US faction, and gigantic Aircraft carrier static model, although, MEC is eligible for using F-14, since Iran is still using ones it got during times they were friendly with US, they even modified some recently to shoot Fakour-90, domestically made airborne launched Hawk missile in Phoenix casing... So, let's hear your ideas guys ????

Rhino had a pretty extensive idea for how it could work in game. Don't recall exactly how but it was interesting.

Man, I wish I could, maybe I'll look into it when get new PC, but I can't promise a thing, I'm lousy modder, but Tomcat is life, so...

Ye I love the F-14, my fav aircraft in DCS, even if I am always pulling off the wings in high g turns

From memory thou, basically what I had said is the RIO could be equipped with a BVR radar view, which would basically be a weapon which when used, would just be a blank radar screen, but the camera for it would be say 1km in front of the aircraft, with maybe varying distances for it if the RIO wanted to look for targets before that range. So if the map had a 1km View Distance (VD), then it would effectively be able to see targets up to 2km in front of it, before it could actually see them normally.The RIO could also lock onto targets and fire a Phenoix missile which would fly straight for the first 1km before it started to seek a target, but how well that would work is very questionable, probably not very well and if you also wanted the Phoenix to lock onto targets before 1km, then you would have to also have different versions of the same weapon which would mean the Dummy Weapons wouldn't work properly (ie, when you fire the missile they would still visually be attached to the aircraft, even thou one had still flown off and the mag counter for them had dropped).

A possibly more practical role would be to basically put the F-14 in the "Fighter-Bomber" class of aircraft we have in PR, that the Tornado, F-15E etc fit in, where the rear seat controls the air to ground smart bombs/weapons, and is able to manually target them onto targets as well as lock onto painted targets.

You could possibly do a mix of the two roles as well, with it carrying both Phenoix missiles and LGBs, but that would mostly be a mapper choice.
