Any change that will make this game more like SQUAD is a good thing!

I feel like having to hold C is really awkward. I'd much prefer if this worked like BUIS where a single press of the button would toggle the focused state.

Then we need a different key as it otherwise would conflict with toggling BUIS.

I don't care about the key. I dislike the push-and-hold behaviour. It should be a toggle.

But also, I don't really understand what the problem you are referring to even is. Do you ever have a weapon that has both BUIS and focus?

Every weapon with BUIS can use focus when BUIS is enabled

I am getting a strange freeze when focusing in.

I teally like the new focus feature! Indeed if that could be hold c that toggle the focus would be even better and press c again to un toggle it.

how about removing focus from BUIS weapons as they already have scope for greater magnification,
and putting focus on unscoped weapons as "reverse" BUIS (secondary view has bigger zoom).

so C stays the common key to toggle.
