More BF2 Mesh Viewer Exporting Weirdness

Whenever I export from bf2meshviewer the mesh comes out with double vertices, this is fixable but it completely gets rid of the smoothing making me have to manually mark the edges sharp again if I wanted to edit this mesh. Is there any way to export without having the issue of double verts? Thanks.

see how it removed 8000 vertices, the weird shading artifact is fixable with weighted normals but it doesn't keep the sharp edges unfortunately

No. There's no smoothing groups in bf2 meshes, they get triangulated on export.
