Didnt see any discussions about it, so wanted to ask.
Couple of days ago, i saw this post on the r/battlefield subreddit:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Battlefield/comments/zqri83/a_preview_of_what_rtx_remix_could_do_for_legacy/

from what i understood, this is applicable to all bf games on the refactor engine. But i wonder what the devs think of this.

so i wanted to ask....
- is it possible?
- is it maintainable?
- is it worth it?
- does the devs have any interest for this?

WOW! Awesome sauce, but I gotta agree with some of those comments... everywhere always looks as if it just stopped raining, and that the clouds precipitated K-Y Jelly, but like somehow indoors as well. I've never seen such a shiny cloth carpet

We are following the RTX remix project and certainly will give it a shot once it gets properly released.

that would be amazing if it did, like the sounds on PR are great, the gameplay is great, if the graphics got upgraded than WOW is all I gotta say. Definitely could bring in a ton more people since they'll see the increased graphics and attention YouTubers will get from saying WOW look at this 12+ year old game that looks great even today!

We are mainly interested in the DirectX9 to Vulkan conversion and not so much in actual ray tracing. There is already an open source project that does this and it allows for a notable FPS increase. However the open source project has some issues with the way BF2 uses Direct3D API and it makes PR run out of memory even faster. We hope that the Nvidia solution might not have this issue.

The memory issues have improved. With version 2.2 it is playable without crashing. You will need to tweak the config to include

Code: Select all

d3d9.deviceLostOnFocusLoss = True
otherwise you will crash when alt-tabbing. Even with this config change it might still be very unstable especially when alt-tabbing.
