I miss the old days when the PR tournament was a thing. I could see it being a 4 team or even a 2 team event taking place. With 2 organized teams of 50 players each, with 50+ reserves in case of no shows. The organization, the pre match tactics, the practice rounds, are still some of the most memorable times I've had playing PR.

How could we bring back the PR tournament?

I agree that there is quite a bit of work involved, and that probably the player base needs to be larger than it is currently. Right now, it seems that we are able to fill one 100 player PvP server in the NA/EU geography.

IMHO, improving the gameplay on public servers is already a thing. As a SL, teaching and showing players team work will create more experiences and content, and will bring new players.

Maybe a light edition of a tournament might be a thing worth trying?

I can't sign up for a supporting role, but for sure I'll be on the rooster.

The Spanish speaking community usually has their own 100 player filled server during the day as well. Usually I see 2 active servers on a weekday, one being NA/EU and the other ESP, and then 2-3 full servers on weekends with 100 players on each

That is a good point. One can add to that the Russian speaking community, which operates around another 100+ player volume during peak hours.

I wanted to make a check of the PR playerbase. Should be quite easy to make some polls here and there.

I remember that there has been some testing regarding 200 player servers in the past. Looking at the posts from the forum, it seems that these tests have been abandoned due to stability issues.

Is there a chance to test to use a higher number of players P, say with 100 < P < 150+? Perhaps on a special event?

The thing is sadly what Alex said and there aren't any shortcuts or fixes.

When people tried to get Campaign 14 to happen the community health was at a better state compared to now and more people from previous campaigns to set the example and lead the way where still around. And yet the tournament didn't happen.

Why did it not happen back than? Well opinions where different depending on who you spoke to. But I think it came down to it basically being impossible to get Admins, SCO, CO, Supporters, Contributors. Hell I seem to remember it wasn't sure there would be enough people willing to SL or if enough people would sign up. So people pulled the plug to not ruin the legacy.

Until you have names of people that are respected/known in the community and that have a realistic idea of the shitload of work it takes signing up to be admins and giving up their chance to play any plan to restart it is dead in the water.

Than you need to get 4 people to sign up for the SCO/CO role with the promise they will take a lot of abuse and have to do a lot of work but hey if it works out they could have a great tournament and they actually get to play.

And than from there you have to go down the list. But quite honestly I would be surprised if you find 1 person that most would consider capable and up to the job for Admin/SCO/CO. Which than leads to if you don't want to step up yourself for any of those you are just wanting others to do a lot of work without being willing/able to commit yourself.

As for suggestions of events they still happen on occasion and I am sure if you are willing to put in the work you can probably find a community to host it for you. Except for the 200 player thing pretty sure devs said no on that.

A light tournament I mean that doesn't really solve any of the above problems. And the lighter you make it the less it will be like the tournament.

This was an argument that was had back than as well. Where the hardliners where saying nothing can be changed it all needs to be the same standard and others where willing to compromise leading to some of the former saying than it isn't worth my time. (not making a value judgement just saying how it was)

But even for the "light tournament" there is probably communities willing to host it if you bring the work and the people.

I am not posting this to try and put shade on anyone I am merely trying to explain the difficulties. And feel free to proof me wrong I will pickup the medic bag again

thank you for your valuable comment and background information on the last tournament developments. I believe that there are not shortcuts or fixes.

I did not look thoroughly, but there does not seem to be a overview what kind of work and staff resources the tournament required back than. I believe you when you say that it was substantial.

Regarding larger player numbers for special events: I just had word from the developers of PR that there will not be any 100+ player servers. This was the thing I was primarily interested in.

yes the number count of players needs increased, if even just for tournaments, and certain toxic and sometimes racist players need to be kept away from the tournament.

We have had 8500 different accounts sign in to Project Reality in September 2023 so far and 220,000 all time since 2020. Retention is the issue. https://prstats.tk/?page=171

Work on the tank flamethrower, napalm effects, add a backpack flame thrower. Fix the civilian getting instant arrested by shotgun situation. Change that to stamina bar removal by shotgun against civilians.

This adds 2 very fun things to the game, flamethrowers and makes civilian rock throwing human shield protests for cache roadblocks tactically possible without un-realistically getting suddenly mowed down by a lone breacher. Even a breacher with a full squad is very overpowered currently taking away the need for their cuffs, that is another reason shotgun should just remove stamina from civilians.

With this change shotgun would still be overpowered against civilians with a lone breacher with a full sprint bar shooting multiple civilians to slow them down for lone arresting or allow arrest teams to move in.

One could also organize a Teamwork Night, like various servers/communities used to do in the old days. Those were fun back then.

Well, there has been some movement recently. There have been - and most likely will be - organised Project Reality skirmishes with pre-registered team rosters, order of battle, pre-game battle planning and CO/XO roles at SBOON, FESA and RU PR communities.

While HOG seems to be the servers these days to organised team play some of the time, these type of events blew me away. I posted some of the footage here on the forums e.g. the SBOON vs RU Community match.

As organiser of the only non clan squad of irregular public server players and co-organiser of these events I have to say that work involved to do these things is substantial. Without interested parties and a player base that appreciates these kind of offer you will not see organised events coming back. If you want to shape things, there is a lot of potential here, too.

Just to give you an idea of the work exposure: I had a 40-50% loss rate from registration to play with my (hand picked) non-clan public server bunch of "irregulars" for my squad rosters. Please note that all players either cancelled in time, or could not join because of last minute technical difficulties - there were no real drop-outs. Then there is Discord organisation, information of players, registration/roster mangement, briefing, server testing and administration. Now, the stats might differ for clans, and once there is a better streamlined process in place, with event dates not coming on short notice. Still, I was shocked.

The upside? Probably the best games I played in PR in terms of adreneline kick and feeling. And all goodies you might want to have ... special maps, inter squad collaboration, amazing communication and teamplay ... you just need to get involved.

The issues are manifold.

I think you have to improve the metric: It is not about the signed in accounts but actually signed in accounts times played hours per account.
