Okay first off, what's a good 3D program that you can model things in that's free or you can download?

Also how can you get a third-person-view of like a normal combat scene to make for a banner?

Oh and I've had battlerecorder things but I've tried downloading a few and it says that I can't.. So I don't know. Also if you use Battlerecorder does it show all the chatter and minimap and such?

Go too http://www.softimage.com and download the mod tool XSI. Its everything required that was used to make HL2 and more.
Basically all the modeling tools the 6k version has but without the uneeded fancy stuff.

I use XSI and have tryed 3D-max 7 and Modo also zbrush which is a bit different. XSI imo is the best.

if you get it post again and il send you in the direction where you can get good tutorials (video step by step how to make a colt 1911) that will have you used to the interface in no time at all.

I allso remind people that cracked versions are illegal and should not be advertised on this forum. Would be wise to remove any suggestions before a mod does.

Gmax is basically a free version of 3DS, it would be better than using a illegal cracked version.

Okay thanks for all your help guys, I'll look into it.
But don't you need to have a different program to skin the models?

For skinning, you most likely want to go with Photoshop. You're goin to need at least a year of experience with this to have an average skin.

As for starting off modelling, I wish you the best of luck, for it takes so much patiences and determination(frustration) to finally get a good model.
