Pistols

Is it just me, or are the pistols really weak? I've been to my local range and Fired a 92FS, M1911 Colt .45, Glock 17, and others. I can say that these handguns seem pretty powerful. If I was shot by one, and it didn't kill me, I'd probably be on the ground for awhile. In PR the pistols seem to do the same amount of damage as in regular BF2. You have to put at least half a clip into someone to take them down. Is anyone else finding this to be the case?

yep, i like to do cqb with handguns when im bored, but it seems to be too weak....but comparing an m1911 with the 9mm of a glock.......

yes they are way too underpowered. I think that, seeing as how it takes 2-3 well placed AR shots, pistols should be at 4 shot kills. Not many people get them so its not a balance problem, but at medium+ ranges they should be fairly weak to avoid problems.

BTW I think this has been brought up so please search before posting things, it cuts down on 2 to 3 threads being about the same thing in a weeks time.

I was just saying that I've shot a variety, and they all seem to be powerful. You can compare two different caliber guns. An M1911 Colt .45 shoots a heavier round than a 9mm Glock, but the Glock has a higher muzzle velocity. So it packs a large punch. Comparing a Luger to an M1911, I can say, the Luger seems more threatening. That thing is like a cannon, and I would much rather be shot by the M1911, well, I'd rather not be shot at all. Back on topic though, I just threw those in their for variety and difference of experience. You can ignore the M1911 and Glock 17 if you like, since only the 92FS is in the game out of those three.

Also TRIggS, I did search the forums, and nothing came up. At least, not anything about Pistols in the title. So if it happened within another thread, then this is a pistol specific thread.

Do pistols defeat body armor? If not, this discussion is moot.

A 9mm from a pistol to body armour wont do much I suspect. I always go for head shots with my pistol which always kills a guy in one or two hits, so I wouldn't know form body shots.

Also the iron sights on MEC and chinese pistols are soooo off (god damn EA... why take the time to do good iron sites on the US gun, and not the MEC or PLA?)

Exactly! Modern body armor is rendering small pistol rounds less and less effective on the battlefield. That is one of the reasons that lead H&K to develop the MP7, which fires stronger rounds that can punch through body armor.
I think light armored troops like medics, combat engineers, and spec ops should take far more damage from a sidearm than infantry wearing the heavy armor kits. Unless you shoot someone in the face… then it’s a done deal. Are the helmets coded as part of the head or armor? The new US military helmets can withstand hits from bullets. I know its not anything massive like 7.62 but I’d imagine it would be tested to 9mm or .45 ACP.

The body armor of ground troops defeats 9mm and .44 magnum rounds, with minimum backface deformation.

Discussion is very likely to end here :-P

EDIT: You can get some info here and here. It helps to search for data before making a post. Our Mil Advisors are very reliable as well ;)

The pistols are just fine as is. You will kill your enemy if you get the drop on them at close range. That's what's important.

Well what about the spec ops, medics, engies, and surge? Do they all have body armor? Surge shouldn't have any or at least very limited and the selection screen shows spec ops, medic, and engie all without armor. Does PR give all infantry units the same armor even though some don't show heavy armor in their kit?

They seem weak to me. I was playing heavy AT last night at ruins in EJOD, and I had to shoot guys like 6 times to drop them. They feel a bit weak imo.

Those soldiers have "Light Armor". The heavy classes are heavy because they have more armor. Light classes are not wearing skin just below the shirt. Doesn't make sense either.

If you want to argue realism then you can say that no matter how many times you hit them in the body, they wont die. But in PR if you put half a clip into the body they die. Also, if you get shot while wearing body armour, it knocks you down. You don't stand there and keep shooting as if nothing happened. Maybe it could be done where if you get shot in the body by a pistol, then you experience the same effect as if you shot a wall right in front of you.

Jp, you're one to post that picture. You have 1,346 posts since November of 2006.

I'm sure there is an AK-47 in almost every home in Iraq but I doubt theres a second or third generation kevlar vest hanging in every closet.

@Naval Lord: Yes, but they were quality posts. Plus I have a better KDR than you :D . Besides, are you telling me that picture *isn't* hilarious, that if you had found it, you *wouldn't* have been looking for an oppurtunity to post it?

JP wins this round. That picture almost made me spit out my water as I was drinking it.

Insurgeants don't have any armour at all I don't think?

MR-444 pistol iron sights are misaligned.

Makes choosing RPG as Mec a death wish once your out of rockets.

Unless you can empty a clip in 2 seconds like I can.

no hilarity in the picture what so ever. drifters is funny (ONLY IF HE IS BRITISH) sense they love going on camping trips pulling tiny campers behind even tinier cars. but if he is American then it is not funny.

but, though 9mm wont go through body armor and will probably barley give your a bruise on your chest, for PR purposes they should probably be abit more powerfull, ells your going to have to make the MP5 suck with it.

we could put in the .50 Desert Eagle (joking) as it will go through body armor and like, everything ells it is pointed at.

I guess it's not funny because I'm an American. I'm banned from our clan forums "for my own good" so I asked one of the FH playing asshats to make me a sig... he made that. I think its funny as a cripple so I kept it.
