Artillary is sooo BF2

Not sure if this is on the dev's lists or not, but I would love to take the artillary out and replace it with an air strike instead. Or some form of artillary other than the shells that hit one after the other. Insurgents don't really have artillary right now, maybe they could have some kind of chemical agent shot by mortars issued by commander.

The other countries could call in an air strike with a set of cluster bombs, some big bomb, or a tank buster bomb. Before the strike, in place of the artillary firing could be the sound of a plane overhead. Of course the artillary would be replaced with a radio tower or something that could be blown up to prevent the strike.

Why not... Both! I've been longing for a "Request Air Strike" command on the tacmap, i don't mind if it's an objective for pilots...

Yea, only I think the air strike done by the game would be more accurate than by the player. :p

I would rather have airstrike cause how cool would it be to hear jet and then actually see and hear a JDAM come in and destroy a compound.

I was going to suggest this a while ago but I never did because I forgot so its a good thing you brought it up FREEGUNNER. I like this idea too since I kinda hate how the artillery is in the map. It's a part of the game and isn't an easy, and sought after target like in BF2 anymore. If anything, the models should just remain off map. Besides, they just invite spec ops basecampers time to time.

The Airstrikes would be cool. It can have the same delay time, but say.. 5-6 seconds before the impact, we hear one of those F-15 flybys for a bomb run. It'd also be cool if the commander can have two 'artillery types' - and turn it to two kind of airstrikes. One for (4 LGBs) (2 planes) of 2000lb. bombs and another for (4) Cluster bombs. That way, squad leaders would have to do extra work to select the right kind of support. LGBs for precise armor/building neutralization and Cluster munitions to spray and area clean of infantry.

Unfortunately - I'm afraid the BF2 code will stop us from this one. But if possible at all, that would be incredible. I'd give up the Vehicle Drop just to have 2 types of artillery/airstrike calls.

you could have a target for piolets like a flare or an infa red nad in the target zone so they can lock on

Why not the binocs in SF kit, aren't they meant for targeting and painting ground targets in real life?
Artillery just doesn't seem realistic I mean of course its still used all the time but I think troops favor JDAM strikes cause they are more safe and accurate causing less collateral damage.
I gotta say, PR feels like an entirely new game and not related to bf2 at all but when I first started playing and I heard the shreeking infamous bf2 artillery strike above me I was like "oh my god here we go" and boom, dead.

i can see this working something like the supply drop. You could replace the arty shell with the bomb "effects" or w/e its called code and much like the supply drop you hear a jet come over the bomb drops (boom) you hear the jet go away?

Would be awesome to see like 3 different types. Maybe even like a A10 strafe if thats possible, but since the a10 is so awesome make it like a 1 minute wait :-D

Aw man...just a simple player/squad controlled mortar would be terrific, and would obviously require certain learned skills to operate.

i think point of existence did a great job on the artillery.
in poe2 you had to use binoculars and a radio and then a player that manned a howitzer (for example a phz2000) could shoot manually at your position, that system was really well done

noone ever request artillery as people just bombard a base from ontop a hill with the artillerytanks though. atleast on the servers i played.

oh yeah... and people (like me) are whinging about the accuracy of the grenade launchers... but seriously a mortar is a great idea... the artillery can't really be taken to much degree of reality because the maps aren't big enough...

I thought the DEVS were dropping hints that airstrikes were coming... in future expansions of this not-so-mini mod PRBF2.

If there's going to be an airstrike option there would be a way to prevent it on some maps, maps that have jets- players can then shoot down those bombers before they reach their target. It would be somewhat annoying, but cool too :)
