Textures dissappearing

First off, let me start off by saying I'm not entirely sure this a bug with project reality. I can definitely recall something similar happening to me in Vanilla BF2, and got serious to the point where I had to reinstall the game several times, but I can't remember for the life of me what I did to fix it "perminantly". Even so, it was only through playing PR that it seems to have ressurfaced.

During prolonged session of playing, textures start dissappearing from my game, being replaced with nothing but blackness. The longer I stay on, the more dissappears. I usually quit when the texture used for my iron sights goes black, so trying to zoom a weapon just makes the screen go black. However, if I allow this to continue long enough, I am unable to disconnect in a normal fashion. My game will just crash when I press escape. The process happens much faster on maps where I generally get lag (like Al Barash). Restarting my computer seems to restore the game to a healthy state, but this is really making me nervous.

The reason I'm really concerned is because, the process of texture loss is happening expodentially faster. After only twenty minutes on Inishall Forest the texture for my binoculars dissappeared. I quit after that round before it could get worse.

And no, I'm not over-clocking my graphics card. (whatever that even means)

Um, never heard of this before.

Maybe you are overloading your memory?

Try lowering your settings, especially your texture settings.

Well, the "good" news is that I found out textures were only dissappearing so fast on the "Thors Brigade" server. In other words, if I play on another server, or play on that server when its normal (they were having some kind of trouble today), the textures take longer than 20 minutes to dissappear. Even so, this is still annoying.

Just wondering, does FRAPS make PR laggier? If not, maybe I'll see if I can get some screenshots to show you exactly what I mean.

Update:

When I tried to take a screen shot I got an error that said something like:

Insufficent memory to create bitmap. Close one or more applications to increase virtual memory.

AFAIK, project reality was the only application I had up. Again, how quickly it happens definitely depends on the map and server, but I'd still like this fixed.

Time for you to write your computerspecs on this thread.

Right, well, I'm really not much of a technophile...at all. What do you need exactly?

-right click "My Computer"
-properties
-look at the bottom right
-it should tell you how much RAM you have and what your processor is
-tell us that

-right click your desktop
-properties
-settings tab
-display:" under there should be a drop down list
-look at it, it should say "your moniter" on "you graphics card"
-tell us your graphics card

Okay, here's the information on the RAM and processor (I think :o ops: ):

Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.60GHz
3.60 GHz, 1.00 GB of RAM

And this is the graphics card:

RADEON X850

Right?

Here they are:

Yeah, I admit, the settings look pretty mighty, but are they really too tough for the computer to handle?

try to lower them and see what happens

maybe turn off dynamic shadows and light

Well...okay. Honestly, though, is it normal with my settings and hardware to have these kinds of problems?

EDIT: Well, I turned off the dynamic lighting and shadows, and while it may have slowed the process, I still encountered this same problem on Sunset City.

Try going to My Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache, and delete everything in there to clear out the shaders.
When you load a map again it will optimize the shaders again.
May work may not.
It wont hurt anything, so try it.
Also put your Display mode to 1024 x 768 @ 75Hz
Dynamic Shadows Medium
Dynamic Light Medium

That cache thing may have solved the problem...for now. Thanks Outlaw, and everyone else who posted here.

UPDATE:

Even so, the cache idea doesn't seem sufficent. Recently I lost textures only 15 minutes into a game, AFTER deleting the cache files. Anyother idea?

I play on low and I get this sometimes also. Your vid card is Hot, so I suggest that you shut down your computer and let it rest for a few mins, and turn it back on.
