Ak47, 74, 101 vs G3

I couldn't find a thread about this and I wanted to ask about the reasoning behind using the G3 for the MEC. I'm thinking that the AK would be used more than the G3 due to the fact that it's cheaper (it and it's ammunition) and there are probably millions more AKs than G3s, so it's easier to get. Also, I'm not sure about the G3s reliability, but I've heard from a Long Range Patrol soldier who served in Vietnam, who said that two of his buddies had an AK they had where they would fire it only once a month, letting it sit around getting all grimy, then once a month kicking(literally) the bolt open, and putting a few rounds through it. It never failed once apparently. I respect your decision for choosing the G3 since you are the modders and I am only a humble player(

) wishing not to be an inconvenience.

Two reasons I know of.
1. H&K sells to pretty much anyone except countries in trouble.
2. Saudi Arabia I believe uses the G3.

Saudi Arabia would not fight the west, it's not really a hostile nation, it's more neutral-friendly I think.
As for using the G3, you must remember that this is a fictional army, and what with the amount of money the Middle East Coalition could of made off of oil and other products it could probably afford a G3.

Wether Saudi Arabia would fight or not is kinda irrelevant if a big amount of the Mid East is drastically hostile I kinda think Saudi Arabia would get involved simply to protect themselves.

It uses 7.62 but I believe a different caliber of 7.62 than the AK.
7.62x39 Russian Is the AK round
7.62X51 is I believe the G3 round.

Correct, G3 is chambered in the 7.62mmx51mm nato round, it is .308 in diameter.
The russian round which is used by AK-47's, RPK's, sks's, AK-103-104 ect. is the 7.62x39mm round, which has a slightly larger diameter of .311.
Hope this clears things up a little.

7.62x39 is also called "7.62 short", and 7.62x51 is "7.62 NATO".

Iran uses the G3 as it's primary assault rifle. And this has been discussed before. There are already new G3 models in the work, in fact the devs gave us a slight preview on some of the variants.
Personally though, I wouldn't mind throwing the AK-101 to a few kits for variety purposes. Since the MEC is a fictional army, can't we be somewhat creative with their armaments?

Right now I'm much more deadly with the G3 than AK101. It's just a matter of getting used to it.

Thank you for clearing that up for me.
Though I still think that the AK would be more used due to the fact that it's about everywhere. ONly my opinion though.

This has come up a lot hehe.
I want each "faction" in PR to have a unique main battle rifle. The G3 and G3 derivatives was an asset family available to us that was a plausible choice for a fictitious middle eastern coalition.
The AK47 family of weapons is an obvious choice for Insurgents (which most CNN affected people seem to perceive the MEC as not possibly being anything other than terrorists).
The AK101 family of weapons (of which there are 2 variants provided to us by EA) are "orphaned" in our current road map, but there are plausible factions we could add in the future where the AK101 family could be used as the main assault rifle.

Remember, those "vodka drinking guys" don't use the AK-101, but the AK-74 (mostly). The AK-101 is for export.
A common misconception is that the AK-101 has entered service as the main assault rifle of the Russian Federation, but this is not true; the AK-74M is still the main assault rifle, the AK-103, a variant of the AK-101 firing 7.62 mm Soviet rounds, is in limited service with selected units in the Russian army, and the AN-94 is entering limited service in the elite forces of the Russian military, some Russian police forces, and the Internal Ministry of Affairs.

Only two problems... Iranians don't speak Arabic, or look like the Arabs. Also from what I've heard, Iran is already replacing their HK G3's with some rifle they made called Khaybar KH2002. So for PR is quite realistic to suggest that in the future(since PR is taking place in the near future) these G3's were sold to other Middle Eastern countries by Iran.

why does every body believe anybody but the US has to have an ak?
its not US -v- rest of world terrorists.
the g3 is an exceptional weapon in pr and people calling for its change obviously havnt got used to/tried it out properly.

maybe you can add a "close combat" kit , for the US that kit can be armed with a m4 (inside of a m16) and for the MEC they can be armed with s AK-101(inside if the g3)

I would imagine the only factions suited to the AK-101 would be the either newly NATO or NATO membership seeking countries in Eastern Europe, where they're restandardising on the 5.56x45mm round to comply with NATO standards. Mind you, from what I've read, heard or seen they're either producing thier own stuff or buying it from Western Europe, rather than getting off the Russians.
I doubt (ok, hope) we'll be seeing too much of the AK-101 in later releases of PR.
@77SiCaRiO77: That dosent make any sense, there are plenty of G3 derivatives that would fill the CQB role perfectly, such as the HK53 (spec ops weapon ATM), HK33K or MC-51.
