Runways... Destroyable?

In game now, each side is equipped with a number of anti-air kits, however often times it is still difficult to have the right combination of anti-air assets in the correct spots to do any damage to the enemy air force. And even when a plane or helicopter is downed, sooner or later another will take it's place. What if the only ground textured runways would be exchanged for a destroyable object, like a bridge, and then special operations teams and combat engineers, as well as bombers can try to destroy the runway. Thus neutering the enemy's air force. Of course like bridges it should be wrench repairable, but it should take a bit longer than a bridge because of the close tolerances a runway must be built for to accommodate heavy modern airplanes (at least American ones).
Also, on a related note, I think the on map bridge and asset indicator should be removed so you don't have a big yellow sign telling you what bridge or artillery piece is down and where.

I think it's a good idea in theory, but not good for anything BF2 related. The airbases are too close together and are too easy to rape. Once one side destroys an airfield there will be no real way for the other side to recover. I don't think base raping should even be allowed.

This was talked about a long time ago, and someone definetly put it on thier map, though I cant remember what happened in the end.
It worked bassically how you described, but putting a bridge in place of the runway, and if a plane attempted to take off from the destroyed bridge it was destroyed.

Can you picture it? Four planes scrambling towards the opposing runway to destroy it and neither one actually helps the ground pounders like they are supposed to do. Remember Flaming Dart from BF:V? For the first 10 minuites of the game it was nothing but planes trying to destroy the other team's runway towers.

Wow, that's pretty neat. How long ago was that? When is the last time prmm had the old mp5?

couldnt you just texture the ground over the bridge so that the bridge component is still there, but destroyable too? or would the texture over the bridge than take the brunt of the force and not allow the bridge to explode?

Pretty cool idea, thing is though you would end up with a bunch of guys trying to place explosives on the runway, it would look sort of funny if you ask me.
What I did enjoy from BFV's "Operation Flaming Dart" (I think that was map's name) was that each sides airbase had some sort of "control tower" which was destructable. Once the control tower was blown up, the respective team's planes simply would not spawn again. Of course any planes that had already spawned could still be utilized.

That would be quite cool. It should have to take a fair bit of explosives though, so 1 C4/SLAM in the middle wouldn't really render the whole runway useless. You could have multiple targets:
- Runway
- Hangar
- Control Tower
All with different effects. Control tower would mean no minimap/bomb boxes for aircraft or no communication. Runway would mean no respawn. Hangar would mean no resupply/repair. It would add alot of variety.
Of course, then you have the problems. Maps with carriers. You could have it all on a carrier. I guess the close proximity of everything would be a disadvantage. But the fact that they have very good AA and alot of water to protect itself makes things more balanced i guess.
It's about time we got to destroying things. I think we should have some sort of demolitions class. Instead of spec ops/engineer. With a PDW and alot of explosives. Useless at anti-vehicle, excellent for anti-buildings or something. Something like this would make things quite fun.

I smell a Scenario game mode!
British PARA forces attempt a daring mission to destroy the growing threat that is the PLA airfield, located....somewhere near something british that is important, but yet in the orient(possible? lol).
All GB forces got Parachutes(after somehow being scripted so that they can be used at the right hight

). Transpot plane miles high!!! I can see it now!

Errr... after the British retake Hong Kong, nearby PLA airbases threaten the densly populated city and the paras must nutralise the threat?

Sounds like fun. I'm all for destroyable runways so long as it is one sided and not two opposing runways trying to bomb the other.

I'd quite like being able to destroy those infedel runways on Basrah. Those A10's have it too easy they do.

Interesting. Thing is though, we have to remember not every map has a hanger and runway (Such as Greasy Mullet). Which is why I would propse simply having to destroy a control tower of some sort to keep the planes from respawning.
If we ever include a radar, destroying it should render the opposing teams minimap/HUD useless.

For a start, this thing would have the be VERY STRONG so would take a good bew 10000000bn C4s to destroy lol. Well....within reason. It also has to be able to be repaired!

If it can be balanced I'm all for it.

If the British spawn in from a para point high in the air. Add the parachute limit for deploy. So that all the troops have to pull the shoot early and attempt to land at a point with the rest of the squad. This will require some room for the British as a landing sight far from enemy CP and pre set rally points. As a paratrooper, you wouldn't knowingly go into a potential hostile area. This would simulate a awesome drop as the troops would need to regroup with their team mates after landing and push forward. It pretty fun. Trying to keep 32 people together in the air

A mod had this and it wasnt using a bridge it was a actual runway that could be destroyed. I forget which mod though
