IED selection

Will I know this has been discussed to some extend before, but my idea is a farther expansion. I know that most of us are eager to see the present IED model in PR to change, but in addition to that why not a variety of different kinds of IEDs in PR? If you remember the old Vanilla Battlefield 2 days, then you'll remember that for each kit there were 2 unlocks. For example: Spec-Ops kit had the G36C as its first unlock, and the Scar-L as its second unlock. What if this kit switch option was used in PR to scroll through 3 different kinds of IED's? The first can be the regular IED (C4 with a new model as many suggested), the second can be perhaps an Explosively Formed Penetrator (EFP), and the third one can be a Shaped charge. The regular IED is useful in many cases in PR, but I think the addition of the Explosively Formed Penetrator can be useful for taking down heavy armored vehicles from a distance. I honestly don’t care about the third kind of IED, but I think it would be nice to have the ability to choose between at least two different kinds of IEDs for different situations.

EFP and shaped charge refer to the same thing
yes i would like to see a shaped charge ied, just a little pipe that will drill a hole through half a meter of armor and kill everyone inside

Would be nice. I don't think they can use the unlock system though.
If there was a way, I'd recommend an anti-infantry IED, like a fire bomb or something. And have three of them assigned to different weapons slots with different remotes for each. That way you could set up several and only detonate the one you want to.

Will its quite easy to design a EFP (Explosively Formed Penetrator) for PR. BF2 engine already has a claymore explosive model, were the claymore is pointed at a certain direction and when triggered by wire or remote, the mine spreads fragments at that specific direction it was first directed at. Will the EFP IED I'm talking about could work the same way. Explosively Formed Penetrators are just metal cylinders (usually made out of pipes) with the front end closed by a concave copper or steel disk. The explosive is inside this cylinder shaped container with one end closed and the other end secured with the concave disk(which is accelerated like a giant bullet when the internal explosives are set off), as previously explained above. Just like the BF2 claymore were the mine is triggered by a moving object activating it (or done by remote like in PR), the EFP can also be placed somewhere and then activated by remote. Since the soul purpose of the EFP is to penetrate and immobilize armored vehicles from a distance of the explosion, it needs to be a more strengthen claymore design (with a new model obviously). Now this is the hard part; It requires remodeling job to be done on the present claymore to make it look and have the shape of an Explosively Formed Penetrator, but the fragment effect of the BF2 claymore also needs to be changed, in order to represent a large moving projectile which is accelerated by the internal explosion of the EFP (much like a giant bullet).
Now hers the Battlefield 2 claymore:
And hers a representation model of the Explosively formed penetrator (EFP).

What I would like to see is a way to "bury" the IED. I can't remember which mod it was for BF1942, but when you placed a mine all you could see is the very top button. It made it very hard to detect.
A more powerful explosive which when it's deployed roadside it just looks like a mound of dirt or rock or something instead of a big green bag of dope with wires and and an IPOD on top.
Place one on each side of the road in Al Basrah and when a tank starts tooling down the road BOOM! If not destroy it at least disable th tracks or something.

Yeah thats why I started my sentence with "Will I know this has been discussed to some extend before, but my idea is a farther expansion"
I'm explaining how this can be done and how the BF2 unlock tool can be used to have the ability to switch between different IED types.

I used to think the same until just a couple of nights ago.
While closely related (both use an explosive charge focused on a penetrator) there is a significant difference:
An EFP creates a solid metal penetrator
A Shaped Charge creates a jet of molten metal penetrator.
Shaped charges have much higher penetrating abilities, EFP's have a longer range (up to hundreds of feet which is why they are being used in Iraq).
Cudos to Cheesman for the great picture of an EFP being formed.
Wikipedia has a set of great articles on the subject:
