Lockout Code on Jeeps/Humvees/ect..

I've been playing PR for a few months now and I have really grown to love it. and the only thing that really bothers me is that there is a lockout code on anything with 4 wheels, like humvees. I dont understand why this has been implemented. I've never been in a humvee but I have been in a squad car and I know that they are button started to avoid fumbling with keys when there is action. I'm fairly sure a humvee dosnt have a alarm system, and when troops rush out of it they dont have time to lock the doors. So why are the vehicle's locked out? In my view its not really realistic for both teams not able to use each others vehicle's, at least the ones that dont act as spawn points. Its quite annoying when you are on a map that only has these vehicle's and you have to run the whole way.

It's to avoid the enemy using enemy vehicles, which isn't realistic.

If you find yourself running around too much there's something wrong with your team.

The thing is not, that it is unrealistic to be abled to use the other teams car - but a soldier would never ( except in a real emergency ) use an enemy car, because this leads to friendly fire

(not even talking about possible IEDs placed inside the enemy car)

They wouldn't but its possible. I thought realism was the goal of this mod. Theres been plenty of times where my squad has been under some serious fire from advancing squads and that .50 cal on the humvee would have done wonders.

e/

also, the vehicle still shows up on the minimap and tags are still implemented so friendly fire shouldn't be an issue.

This has been discussed a few times.

I doubt we will produce an idea that will be suitable for the devlopers.

Yet I agree. And I've stated that. Really sucks that I can't use an enemy 4x4 when I REALLY need it.

Maybe a point deduction for the driver to deter constant stealing?

Or just some hotwiring function. I think that would work well. Something that would make it so that stealing would not become something wide-spread.

Ummm. No?

In real life Marines don't grab technicals to go on a joy-ride.

And when was the last time you saw insurgents stealing a HMMV?

OK what about Spec Ops being able to do it? I am fairly certian that when trapped behind enemy lines that those soilders would do it. *shrug* just make it where they do not show up on the map as a friendly when they do it so that they may be killed (perhaps give them a TK when they are killed that way as punishment.)

I agree it is VERY unlikely that a vehicle like that would get driven away by an enemy, but manning a gun is just manning a gun. I have had friends in the army that have done that. Desperate times call for desperate measures and a machine gun can really turn a battle when someone carelessly leaves it out.

Well, maybe a compromise solution could be found?

Make it so jeeps REQUIRE a Faction Kit (any kit) to drive, and make them available for everyone. So if an enemy gets in, he can man the gun but not anything else.

Well i dont think that this is a good way to prevent main base stealing.
better way would be to make cars driveable by both teams but mapper sets certain "death area" for oposing team aroung main base wheicles, so who enters that area gets killed like when you leave a combat area.

This way you can prevent stealing of equipment/wheicles/tanks/APCs/planes etc... and still have possibility to use oponents assets if situation presents it self.

couse nowdays we get a lot of noob drivers just leave their prescious vheicles all around the map, just sitting there on the road, empty...

For the sake of argument we can add a 10 sec hotwireing of cars followed with sounds of engine trying to startup and if oponents (lets say spec ops - couse he is most likely to be able to do so) steal that car other side loses 10 tickets.

I thought they couldnt? I've never been able to take a humvee

in the WW2 (the most recent war when the US dosnt have much superiority to his enemy) , americans soldiers sometimes use hanomags and kubelswagen for transport .

Remember vehicles are bullet magnets, both in real life and PR

If an enemy takes its opposing side's vehicle, it is meant for stealth of "undercover" type, mostly done by special forces. But it is quite hard to get into an enemy base, (especially in real life) and steal a vehicle. And if you manage to steal a vehicle inn the middle of the battlefioeld, temamates might have a possibility of teamkilling you.

recently been of the mind to let all the vehicles go adn then hump it out with the squad so we can actually be usefula dn not die in the first lemming wave of fighters....hehe..

I think its good that the vehicles are locked..easy to ID a target...dont have to think twice when i see those damn americans coming....just shoot!

i dont think an enemy force would be foolish enoough to drive around in a hummer anyway..how long you think that would go unnoticed huh??

hehe..peace all..

I like this. Being able to jump on the .50 of an abandoned vehicle would be huge.

yeah that jump on .50 but not drive them idea is capital

especially on maps like EJOD, if the enemy pushes you back to gas station or w/e the MEC middle back base is, you can jump on there vehicles .50 and take them out.
that should most definitely be implemented. except you shouldnt need a special kit, you could just jump in and .50 it up.

95% of the time 4X4's are driven to the city and abandoned. Whos to say insurgents wouldnt take advantage of a free car?

Also, most if not all servers I play on (the american ones), dont allow attacks on uncaps, so the whole base raping problem wouldnt even come up.

I agree. This makes the most sense.

I was on Al Basra today and a TOW hummer was just sitting there empty and we had the oppertunity to use it on a tank and an APC but could not. :(

Americans are allowed to be lazy on Al Basra :(

Hm... when was the last thing you heard USMC leave empty HMMV in a street?

I bet if someone leave empty, open car on the street of Al Basrah, that car would get jacked in a matter of minutes...

That aspect of game is currently just so unreal!

I think that Jeeps, HMMV etc. shud be driveable and APC or TANK shud be atleest operable as weapon by spec ops class, if not drivable.

are we forgetting that in .4 jeeps were unlocked? Im sure if the devs wanted jeeps to be useable by all, they wouldnt have locked them up in .5

yes i know, there were several reasons to do that, but now we have some reasons to see that outcome of that decision has some unrealistic consequences...

We are here to discuss options and what will be the next step we leave to devs to decide.
