Bad server settings

I know that there is now the PROS designation to label servers with good settings, but I feel like the only servers who should be allowed to run **** settings are Practice servers.

I was playing on some server the other day, THS or something, and they limited Sniper rifles to 10 a team, and marksman to 20 a team. And 10 AT kits a team lol. The respawn was like 10 seconds and there was seemingly no delay on requesting new kits. It was a total joke.

Like it or not, people are going to play on servers like this, or other servers which might do even worse things, and they are going to judge PR based on their experience there. Other games let you alter certain settings, but not in such a way as to ruin the game.

On the other hand, I actually LIKE the idea of having wacky setting servers like this to be used as PRACTICE servers, but nothing more.

Ideally it would be great if the devs could some how (and I do not think this is even possible, but I'm just speaking from an idealism standpoint here) limit servers to basically 2 sets of settings, and no other settings could be used than these, and the server names would indicate what kind of settings it is.

1. Practice settings (no limits, low respawn, etc etc)
2. PROS settings (with boundaries like RESPAWN INSIDE 30 to 40), that kind of thing.

Oh well! Barring something like that which I imagine is not possible, at least the PROS/ no PROS idea is sort of a community self policing way of dealing with it. It might be nice to convince non PROS servers to be up front with their customized settings in the join screen and maybe even in server spam so that at least new users can be aware that these are custom settings. Besides, those admins will be quite proud of their custom settings.

This has already been discussed iirc...

yea its a shame that so many of these new 10/15 second spawn servers are getting tons of players...

its really not helping PR's teamwork community at all... :(

being able to request all these kits and other nonsense really turns things into deathmatch, even WORSE than vanilla!

I totally agree... but can anything really be done about it? :|

Guess we just need some more PROS servers asap...

And you should forbid these Funservers to use ABR.
It's statspushing on big scale.

but yea anyways i agree with bludshot, enforcing some sort of policy. Getting these servers to put stuff in their name so players know what the server is about. For example:

PROS Server - official settings
Modified Server - modifying certain settings but still remaining true to PR's tactical fidelity.
Practice/Funny Server - completely fucked up settings that do not allow tactical gaming, and are just for fun and stupidity.

I dont think stupid servers should be disallowed, cause yea they are fun sometimes just to fuck around, try stuff out, and just be an asshat in.

However I think they really need to be clearly marked, so new players dont get a bad taste of what PR is about. Currently there is NO WAY for new players to realise this isnt what PR is about. And because these servers are usually full, I bet alot of new players have already deleted PR because of these shitty settings.

Settings that I think constitute bad for tactical gameplay:

- Friendly Fire anything less than 100% - You need to watch your fire like in real life, this setting SHOULD NOT be adjusted. If you want realism, there is no way you could allow this setting less than full.

- Low spawn times - I think minimum should be 30 seconds. Anything less than that really does not make players value their life and travel with any sort of caution.

- Multiple vehicle/ fast vehicle spawn times - Does not help teamplay at all...

I think that if a server is modified within reason and still remains true to PR (and this could be actually clearly laid out by the devs with boundaries like (HEALTH_AFTER_REVIVE Inside 10-20) that it should still be considered PROS. (That the official settings should be boundaried limits.) Otherwise GloryHoundz isn't even PROS... so....

Anyways, um, so I think it should go like,

PROS+- (CAN be ABR)
Modified (stupidly) (CANNOT be ABR)
Practice/Funny (Cannot be ABR)

Also I think ABR servers should say ABR RANKED in their title. Cuz then noobies will play at the RANKED servers first, not the unranked ones. (Noobs don't know what ABR is, but they know what RANKED means.)

Also I guess I was sort of suggesting that MAYBE some settings should be moved from where they can be edited, to where they cannot be edited. But that could screw up leagues and clans trying to practice so maybe thats a terrible idea.

Some disagree with us running teamkill damage at 30% (the only real big change) but since doing so we have found less accidental teamkills occur and the deliberate ones stick out like a sore thumb. Accidental TK's still happen as 30% won't stop point blank shooting but its enough to not piss off both parties in a friendly fire incident.

We let everyone know in the server what settings we run but tbh no one really notices it as soon as they join (server feedback thread contains nothing about the setting used). Its more of a stand out figure than what it actually does to the game.

The timer is probably the biggest change that could be made in a PR server. as it is i think its perfect but the nillanoobs love shorter spawntimes so those servers will always be busy.

Can the PROS description go in the readme so that new players know about that right away?

PR should come with an EULA for server owners that forbids those dumb settings.

I have seen some PR servers with the ranked icon. Can this somehow be turned on only for PROS servers somehow? We know how vanilla newbs love that icon.
