Al Basrah's getting a little boring, and I have found Mattrah!
I must say it's one of the smoothest playing maps I've ever played in a game!
I mean I can run high textures on it, and achieve the same FPS as if I was running Medium textures. It's just extremely well created & optimized.
If you haven't had a go at this map, you have to! Its great!

This is a fantastic map. Can be alittle one sided though and hard for the US to cap the docks.
But with the right squad/team work, its possible.

you find it sooo unblnaced cos you only think maps with a mirror blance are blanced?
A map like this is something that is very hard to blance, infact its gone though so many phases of blance that it is really hard to keep up with what needs to be changed and where the players are just bitching to much cos they cant work as a team.
If the USMC work as a team, they will win on this map every time, If they do not, they will loose every time.
The thing is this map takes a hell of alot of cordiantion and teamwork to really shine and when you get that it really dose shine. the fact that you need to be inserted by a chopper etc and you dont just rely on your own feet to get you to the next flag is the big factor of this map.
Things like the new start up time on the chopper engines, AAS v2 etc are really hard to keep this map upto date with blance but in the end, it really just comes down to the players playing the map.

Muttrah is my absolute favorite and I am so sad cause it is removed from rotation on few favorite servers of mine. I'm hopping that this is only temporary (cause we need to see new maps also).
If anything is for change on this map, I think, maybe a little extra time for US to safely capture docks (after helicopter warm up came).
But this map is awesome, doesn't need any change, no way that this map is unbalanced.

Map is fine.
I just don't understand why did you decrease the view distance in 0.5? The map ran smoothly in 0.4, I only had
GF5900XT!!! It was nice that I was able to see contours of the carrier from the town or contours of the buildings from the carrier.

The new Chopper features make flying helo's impossible for everyone except expert pilots

reason was not performance related atall. it was to do with the new chopper warming up time the LBs on the carrier could easily be seen from the shore with the AT etc, now this wasnt much of a problem in the past as choppers could get off the ground before the rocket could get there, but with the new rocket speeds, Heavy AT with 2 levels of zoom and the very long warm up time with the choppers, it was a blancing thing to make sure MEC could not rape the carrier from the shore.
the fog range has stayed excatly the same so detail level wise of the map is still the same.
EDIT: also I made this map so it ran almost smooth for a geforce 5700

This is a poor attitude. I grit my teeth anytime I hear someone say "well if the US works as a team.....". No shit. I hate to break it to you, but the opposing team is not just a bunch of bots. If the MEC works as a team the US is screwed. If both teams have equal amounts of skill and teamwork... the US will ALWAYS lose on Muttrah, Al Basrah, Fallujah, Phoenix, Al Burj, and Oman. All of those maps become either a camping situation, or one where the US can only take 1 flag before just getting mauled the rest of the round. Now all of those maps are awesome and well laid out... but something is just not right that makes turns them all into meat grinders.

please exsplain to me then how in the BF tourney when muttrah came up for the next map, the US won but the next map they played (im pretty sure it was jabal) the MEC team won?
the US on the map get all the tools of the trade, they have alot of moverbility etc and if you have good dedicated pilots you will be able to support your guys from the air and move them around quickly.

Of course the MEC won Jabal. Congrats to that US team. I'm sure MEC wins Muttrah 99% of the time. If I knew where such stats were located I'm certain my point would be proven. Now by giving the US a flag at either end of the map to capture at the start helps..... they still usually lose. Just as US does on all the maps I mentioned. Again, they are all awesome maps, there is just something not right that makes them overly difficult for one side or the other.

No. Just don't touch anything until the rotors achieve full rotation. The reason everyone's crashing is because there attempting to throttle up before the rotors have achieved full velocity & they end up tipping over.

I agree that on Muttrah the Mec should always win, but Basrah should be 50/50, Fallujah is won or lost in the 1st 3 mins by us else its 50/50. Phoenix and Oman i agree

I enjoy map with long range. That's why I was looking forward BF2 when I saw the first in-game shots like this one

Big town where you can see the top of the buildings on the other edge of the map.
Unfortunatelly something like that never made it into the game. We only got fog, fog and again fog............(I then believed that it would be great performance killer in bf 2 engine).........until your map. The dream became real. It is awsome, almost incredible (not mentioning hw requirements

). Thank you, Rhino. Keep making city maps like that
Btw. It seems to me that vehicles are not rendered as they are shaded at such a long distance and that's why I find hitting LB with Eryx to be impossible.

Are you sure about that? Was it tested? I would really love seeing extended view range from 0.4.
