Bullet drop physics. - Any answers out there?

I’m curious about how the physics are handled in regards to bullet drop.
Is there a guide/post that is relevant? I couldn’t find one.

1 – Is there bullet drop for ALL rifles/MGs?

2 – Is the calibre of weapon accurately portrayed? ( i.e. power x bullet mass = rate of bullet drop)

I’ve noticed variations in bullet drop between rifles that, to me, doesn’t always seem logical. (but I know nothing!)

It would be great to see a graph or something similar showing ‘bullet drop over distance for different rifles’ :15_cheers

Will, the bullet drop for the M95 Barrett in PR seems to be at a longer range. I've noticed that with the M14 I have to point much higher at a 150-200m distance than with the M95. I might be wrong though.

I think there is a bullet drop for every rifle, though sometimes it seems like the assault rifles would have a smaller bullet drop than the marksman and sniper rifles. Don't know if it's really like that or am I just seeing things.

This is what i think may be happening, but i'm not sure, it just does not seem quite uniform for all rifles.

There is bullet drop for all weapons. It depends on the projectile speed (as it does in real life - mass has nothing to do with the rate of drop at all). It's more noticable on the sniper and marksman weapons, as they have higher zoom and larger typical engagement distances.

You can see bullet drop in the tanks machine gun, cause there are a lot of tracers and the tank has zoom.

I know that the bullet drop has been tweaked for pr, could any of the devs release the actual changes they have done to bullet drop? Or how much each gun's bullet drops per hedred metres or somthing?

You change the speed of hte gun, this affects the bullet drop. You changethe bulllet drop, you change it for all the guns.

Speed of the gun? You mean muzzle velocity? Not sure what you mean in your post here.

is the bullet drop realistic ? actualy the bullet of the m24 fall 1 m for each 100 m of fly :/, that dosent look realistic to me.

or you have a huge zoom so you can see the tracer from farther away ...or something like that, have an idea

time it would take a m24 round to travel 100m would be
= distance/muzzle velocity
= 100m / roughly 853m/s
= 0.12 seconds

distance = .5 x 9.8 x .12^2
= 0.07m

Not exactly Roo. You have the right idea but multiplying .12 by 9.8 gives you the final velocity, not the distance: (s * m/s^2= m/s). Just plug that into another equation and you'll get the drop.

Vf^2= Vi^2+2as
1.12^2/19.6 = s = .064m.

edit: Damnit! You fixed your mistake :P

Projectile mass IRL is relevant to bullet drop. A projectile of higher mass has more momentum, and therefore air resistance has less effect on it. Therefore it maintains its velocity better, allowing gravity less time to make it drop before it hits the target.

However I don't think PR models air resistance.

Anyway, dear physicists, there is no chance for 1m bullet drop at 100m, not even for the pistol.
In real life, when bullet travels trough the barrel of the gun, it starts high speed rotation, also bullet doesn't fly trough air on ideal line.
When bullet comes out of the barrel it starts to move a little UP, so when you aim at 100m, in real life, if you want to hit the target you should aim just a little bit BELLOW the spot you want to shoot.
This, 100m way of aiming, is same for almost all types of assault rifles, whatever type of ammo they have.
Big differences comes out after 200 m, I can tell you for AK 47 for sure, at 200m you will have up to 5 cm bullet drop with AK.

Also, I know that G3 is very powerful and precise in real life, but I didn't saw any bullet drop in PR, for that gun?

Just to clarify my original post was not about how realistic to real life the bullet drop is, (i really don't care, realism should be bent for better gameplay), but whether the bullet drop was consistent across all rifles types; which e-Gor says it is.

Can anyone put together a list of rifles from the weakest to most powerful, in regards to bullet drop?

I have no idea which rifle has what calibre and muzzle velocity etc….and I judge the rifle by its sound, and adjust my aim through the round.

He means how fast the gun goes when it runs at its maximum speed over a hundred meters. lol
