Expanded parachute availability?

Thinking about Muttrah and how to crack it, I thought of a new strategy that uses HALO insertions. See this thread for details.

Anyway - would it be possible to somehow give parachute access to a kit other than Pilots? Maybe a new "Airborne" kit-request type? Or perhaps you have a single use parachute on certain kits? Or perhaps a parachute that starts dissabled/out-of-ammo, but then get's "armed/enabled/resupplied" once you go above a certain altitude?

<shrug> just a thought.

Ask the guy who made Airport!

PR has a defined set of kits for Airborne and Mountain type maps. On the Airborne set all kits come with a parachute (IE Airport). Mountaineer kits have a grappling hook for Engineer and SF (Hills of Hamyong.) You will prolly begin to see these sets of kits used more often in future maps.

I would suggest that if this is done, only allow it from the Blackhawk. Because I don't think you can parachute from a little bird. I'm not really sure how you could do it so that it would be realistic though.

If you enter a blackhawk for X seconds, you get 1 chute (like a reload maybe).

Then every round would start with people waiting in the blackhawk.

I dont think people parachute from blackhawks in real life. Until there is a chinook or actual transport planes I do not see the need for chutes.

People do parachute from Blackhawks in real life.

If we wanted more people to have parachutes, they would have them.

If they did, it should be from Blackhawk, because right now blackhawk isn't as good as littlebird(Too many disadvantages) and that is not the case in real life.

well there you go, just for some reason it doesnt sound right to me. Mabey its becuase I am used to associating fast ropeing with blackhawks and when I think parachute I picture a blawkhawk 100 ft off the ground and someone trying to jump out with a parachute.

I call this rapid deployment :-P

Rappelling ropes should be possible, and weren't they implemented at one time? Those would be nice for urban maps.

Static Line Drops... Although a new Chute would need to be coded and modelled

Why would a new one need to be modeled and coded? Should be as simple as coding the event, though come to think of it the current chute isn't "expendable".

Can we lock this thread and add it to the list of "shit that used to be in the game but the DEVs took it out"

my vote goes for fast roping from choppers. (sorry if its an old feature now removed, doesnt mean its not a valid point imo)

No, it isn't an old feature, it is a discussed-to-death, either-not-possible-or-won't-happen feature.

If chutes were an expendable item that'd be much better. On airport, people use them to get off of the oil derricks and cranes.

Anywho, for US carrier invasion maps, I often take a pilot kit as an SL, then jump out and hide so my men can spawn. Call in supplies, stay alive for 2 min, and send my people out to destroy AA. Since everyone else is busy getting themselves killed with the regular insertio method, i find hiding isn't too hard and if my guys take out local AA installs, other people can land and supplies come in safe.
