Crash to desktop when loading maps

Yep, this is rather frequent now.

On 50% of map loads if will crash to the desktop, not a full system to crash, just pr will shut down. Music stops, and game dies.

No idea why, searched the forums.

Specs:

E6600
2gb Dominator RAM
320GB HDD
8800GTX
EVGA 680i

All stock speeds, no overclocking yet.

never happened on vanilla or any other bf2 mods.

Any ideas?

Note: this is loading during multiplayer, not tried SP yet.

Edit: Found another problem

X-Fi has suddenly stopped working in BF2. Fine is every other game, but not I cannot enable x-fi from the audio menu, it says "your hardware is incompatible". Never done this before. Works on every other game. It sometimes even crashes when I select the audio settings menu.

I have had this same issue. Why does it utilize 1600mbs of Ram when it shouldnt? Is this a client issue or server? When it loads the next map it will crash 50% for me also. I have been checking the task manager and notice maps start off very simple and small then boom it will jump up to 1400mbs easy then to 1600mb. During gameplay look at it for yourself. It does not happen on every map but alot of them. Is this a memory leak issue on the server side? I have reinstalled everything from OS to BF2 and will give it a go using Raid 0 this time to see if this still happens. Also whenever I go check my fps and whenever I hit the tilde key ~ the game would crash to the desktop..Weird because the tilde key is part of the core engine.

3)reinstall everything - clean registry keys and install as vanilla, PR, expansion packs, PR (in that order)

2)delete everything in your battlefield cache directories - found near your screenshot directory

1)defrag drive/s fully with something like perfectdisk 8

not necessarily in that order

I have used them all myself in different situations and they all work... reinstalling is the last resort... but you have to remove EVERYTHING to do with dice/bf2 ~~ there is an online thread (somewhere, I forget) with details
