PR Dogtags

We have received multiple requests for the usage of PR Dogtags in other peoples headers / signatures and why are they even asking from us, because it is in the forum rules that only the team ([R-XXX] & Testers) behind the mod is allowed to use over here. It is true that if you take our signatures and crop it out you can make your own and we have pretty much nothing to do about it if the image is not being used over here but first stop and think twice:
1. DEV-team has requested you not to use them if you dont have the rights, why is that? Maybe because they want the team to stand out from the crowd in the forums, is it a status symbol also? What ever the reason is look around you. These forums, the people over here and most important thing. This huge sized 1.6 Gb mod has been brought to you by those people for free.
It is not much asked to respect those little things these providers would like to line out, it is polite and it is correct. Before you rape the dogtag by making a version of your own based to the original one you should think that do you wish not to respect this little wish.
2. Cant you make a cool sig / header without the dogtag, we [R-XXX] are a group so we have a mark for it, like the dogtag. If you are not part of it but just wish to have because it is cool you will gain nothing but disrespect.
If you are a skilled graphic artist or know one they can make a neat sig without the dogtags and that is for sure.
This is nothing big as you can see but just a reminder for those who have just laughed to our face that "I will photoshop it in a second if you wont provide the original one in .PSD"

Also, other forum members might confuse the perpetrator as a part of the PR team.

You can be sure that over here "fake tags" are not to be seen, we have lovely mods. This was more for people who are going to rip it and use in some other places. That is obvious because they also know that using tag over here without rights is impossible.

While I can completely understand and sympathise with what you are saying, bear in mind that there is no other "logo" for Project Reality. Many people include the logo of their favourite game in their "sig" file. I'm sure many PR forum goers are the same. Because the PR "Logo" is the same as the PR "Team Insignia" you have this clash.
I hope this makes sense.
Ways out:
1) Do nothing. Some people on other boards WILL use the PR Dogtags in their Sig. I'm not saying it's right I'm just saying it will happen.
2) Change the Dev team "insignia", allow people to use the dogtags. Probably the most popular with the rank and file as to them the dogtags ARE the project reality logo.
3) Change the PR Logo, dogtags stay as the Dev Team insignia. A middle way, that allows people to identify with their favourite game without ruining the exclusivity.
Personally I don't feel the need to add the logo. I have my own sig. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

I highly doubt there will be any changes at least in the near future so lets pick the option 1. My point over here was not to discuss with the problem though it is good to happen but to remind people about ethics towards the people behind something you go to play from time to time

...and it's a point well made. However we armchair soldiers are a cantankerous bunch, and can't help adding our $0.02 if we see a chance for a good old ding-dong.
Carry On. :0

I have turned off signatures anyway - makes the forum infinitely more readable

In my opinion yes, you are not using it online and not in signatures so nobody can mess you up as being a team member neither you are taking it to other sites. I do admit that I was acting "feeling based" when making this thread so confirmation to this will come soon.

Why not just put it into the sig rules? You guys can get rid of sigs that you don't like; I know it's been done to me on several occasions.

First read the first post and then comment. There are rules about sigs already on these forums which you can easily see.

in my opinion, anyone who wants to put it in their sig and will go through the trouble to cut it out... well they probably suck at ps. which is an added reason why they shouldnt do it -- theyll probably make the dogtags look like ****.
have some originality, people. to date, i have only used 2 logos in any images i have done. ever. and i have made a LOT of images. one was a heavily altered 2142 logo, and another was the little man on the front of bf2 for an avatar, so it was supposed to be recognizable. my images dont suffer because i dont include work of other artists. personally, i think that makes them better.
the pr guys made cool dog tags. dont ruin them. i see them all over the place already. right now theyre cool. if 500 more people had them, it would kind of get old and no one would like them.

I share Red Halibut's point of view, that some people just would like to display their favorite game in their forum signatures. I am one of those. Since I started playing, I can't shake off the feeling that is is indeed what vBF2 could and should have been like, to a certain extent at least, and am just very enthusiastic about it.
Yes, the userbars are nice, but just not... definite enough.
Nevertheless, you guys are asking this as a display of respect and that respect you have earned - without a doubt.

Does Project Eeality have any other logos? Official logos make wallpapers and sigs look nicer, and IMO that's not really something that is going to hurt the dev team. The dog tags apparently have come to mean people working on the project on these forums, but it would be nice to have a "fansite" kit of PR-looking graphics to decorate wallpapers with.

I didn't know that DogTag sinatures are PR Team only, I thouht anyone could use it. Why don't make a free logo for people to put on there signature?
And, I cant use this sig at this forum can I? When I made it I did't know the rule. After all, it doesn't apear writen Project Reality thou its PR DogTag. Can I keep this as a sig, or should I take it off?

I've wanted to use the dogtags a few times in my life but there can be a better sig without, especially since you get more room to work with.
