Shot down?

Searched the forums for anything of the like but I found nothing on this topic so here goes...
Being a very big air support person (anything with attack helis or jets) I got a special love for aerial combat of any type. I can't wait until the release of .6 for the air tweaks and I'd like to suggest something in the meantime.
When you shoot down an aircraft, what typically happens (ESPECIALLY w/ jets) is they simply explode in midair and s-l-o-w-l-y drift back to the earth as a burnt our carcass (sometimes attack helis are actually shot down where they catch fire and lose control, typically when they get shredded by .50 cal). But what I'd like to propose is that when any chopper or jet is hit by a missile or takes sufficient AAA fire is that instead of simply exploding in midair and drifting back to the ground like a leaf, wouldn't it be nice if aircraft were actually shot down? What I mean is, when you lock on to an enemy jet and hit it with a missile, instead of simply exploding, it would catch fire (just like in Vanilla if you hit the jet with your guns instead of using missles) and lose control (rudders become unresposive, you start losing altitude, warning lights going off, aileron failure/uncontrollable spinning)? It just seems so much more realistic that way. Of course, if you're unlucky enough to get nailed by a HEAT round in an attack chopper, by all means you should explode in midair. But when you're hit by traditional AA weapons, wouldn't it be cool to catch fire and lose control and actually be shot down? (The aircraft finally explodes when it slams into the ground) This way, the pilot either has to eject, die in the crash, or be ballsy enough to attempt to land a busted aircraft. Just a thought...figured it was possible since you could do it with the attack choppers, and that was a great moment in my life when it happened to me (despite the dying). Cheers!

I'd like to see pilots survive a crash occasionally, and give a point incentive to their team for retrieving the pilot. anyways I like the idea (more rewarding for the AA soldier =D )

Hmmmm...ticket bonuses for retrieving downed pilots maybe? Big incentive for teh win and whatnot....Pilots are valuable y'know! Lots of training and stuff....not to mention fancy and expensive equipment.

There are special operations team specifically for rescuing downed pilots, but in pr, who has the time, as the pilot can not drown, and an additional 30 seconds.

Limit pilot kits to like twice per round, that way pilots will be more likely to bail and ask for a pickup.

I could care less about rescuing piolets but I would love to see aircraft come crashing down. Would be even better if the crew didnt die all the time. I would love to be crawling out of the crash and having to try to stay alive and get back to my team.
I would also love to see the ability to crash land an aircraft. It just sucks *** to be trying to land a helicopter when you are taking fire. It just takes for ever to bring it down.
Blackhawk 5 your avatar is too perfect for this thread.

Maybe an extraction game type involving a pilot?

Choppers in .5 are actually supposed to lose control when sufficient damage is taken, but for somereason it doesnt happen or something. I read somewhere that choppers were supposed to spin and lose altitude if they were damaged sufficiently.

I've been in a chopper that was damaged, and I wasn't able to rotate.
Had to make wide turns with the mouse. I got the guy that shot me before he killed me though.
Ah, reread the last part of your post. It seems you already know this.
Anyways, I like how it is now. If you slowly lost control, you'd see near-death suicide bombing planes everywhere.

It may seem like a slowly drifting carcass to you, but I had a destroyed chopper come hurtling towards me yesterday and had to duck to avoid being hit by the flaming ball of fire. Was funny, but terrifying as well.

Not necessarily slowly losing control....more like if you're hit with a missile, your steering immediately goes apeshit like it does on choppers, except even more severe, all the while inevitably hurtling towards the ground. If he actually somehow managed to steer the plane as accurately as to slam into a tank on the ground while his steering is shot and is willing to sacrifice his life, I'd say more power to him, but the way I'd envision it, it would be extremely difficult to get the plane on and maintain a straight trajectory on a little greed box.

What if you're hit with a missile while flying over your team-mates, and your 'ape shit' steering makes you crash into an entire squad, and you get banned for TKing?
Also, this should be in suggestions forum.

yea sometimes they do, Ive been in choppers that, after being hit, fall to the ground in a blazing spin too.
-Choppers, IMO, should have a lot of "health". They can take a lot of damage without being destroyed. The amount of hit points to be disabled would stay the same; engine faliure, spinning out. A helo can hit drop out and crash without being "killed" 100% of the time, but severely damaged. The pilot can then proceed to run away from the helo and not be killed.
If the helo is not destroyed, a crew can repair the helo and it can continue flying.
-The only problem I foresee is that the collision of the Helo to the static ground would negate the effect and instantly kill the helo.

Would be cool but i think bf2 maps are too small for a jet to make an emergency landing.

I really like the idea of having pilots be more important then they are now. There shouldnt be "5 sitting on the runway." It would be very cool if they were a limited number of kits per round depending on the map, for example say 10 pilots for the whole round for jabal on a normal ticket game. Of course some players would ruin this by simply dying a whole lot right at the start, but think of the teamwork and the possiblities of this. Pilots might actually get to use their red smoke. I can imagine the tournament matches with awsome behind enemy line rescues from littlebirds or a special ops squad.
Another idea would be to make pilots simply worth more ticket wise. If each pilot was worth 20 tickets when they died you sure as hell would try and rescue them if they were shot down. Again wouldnt really work on servers were teamwork isnt being displayed, but with the way PR and 0.6 is heading i think the community could handle it.
Anyone agree?

not me. They wouldn't give a "F-word" if it were 1 ticket or twenty.
Last night some dumbarse (sorry, if you're reading this, but you're probably not anyway.) kept crashing the BH on jabal.
I told him to not bother flying anymore,....
BH down
BH down

what would happen if you picked up another kit. I mean if I was a piolet behind enemy lines your damn straight I am going to pick up the first kit I see laying around so I have a much better weapon. Now I am no longer a piolet and not worth the trouble of rescuing.
