The difference between n00bs and Newbies-A guide

There is a common misconception that "Newbie" and "n00b" mean the some thing. This is not true. There is a difference between being a "n00b" and a "Newbe".

"Newbies" are New to the game. They are inexperienced and usually not very good, but they ask questions, learn, read the wiki, and improve thier game, eventually losing their "Newbieness".

A n00b, on the other hand, is someone who, with little experience or knowledge, uses one of their team's assets(vehicles, limited kits, etc.) with little success. This may or may not result in teamkills, lost tickets, and or the loss of assets. A "n00b" may or may not be experienced, but many "Newbies" are also "n00bs". They also may be people who do not care about the team or teamwork, just their score.

How not to be a n00b:
1. Read the Wiki!
2. Squad up!
3. Use VOIP!
4. Do not "whore" vehicles!
5. Do not intentionally TK for any reason!
6. Do not "whore" limited kits!
7. Do not go "Rambo"!
8. If you are not good at somthing, practice it on an empty server b4 trying it in a populated one!
9. Focus on Teamwork!!!!!

How not to be a Newbie:
1. Read the Wiki!
2. Practice everything on empty servers b4 trying them out in full servers!
3. Join a squad!
4. Use VOIP!
5. If you have a question, find out the answer!

-If anyone else has any ideas I will add them to the guide.

I've already expressed my distaste at this word but if there was one internet/gaming term I could abolish NOOB would be it. Makes me blood boil it does!

Also, don't call other people n00bs, you'll only be implying something on yourself
UrbanDictionary wrote:A noob or n00b is someone that lacks intellegance or common sense, most people think that noob is a word used only in the online gaming world, but in reality it is becoming an ever popular word with teenage society.
a noob could be simply a level 100 running round shouting ''WTF DO I GO!?'' or someone calling someone else a noob and then getting hit with a brick, anyone can call anyone a noob, but normally they are noobs themselves

*gets shot with chaingun*

"this game is no good, you all suck noobish balls you stupid noobs!*

I disagree. I think newbies can be just newbies, or they can also be noobs. And noobs are asshat newbies. However, non-newbies cannot be noobs. Those are just called a**holes, idiots, morons, smacktards, etc.

I can't stand it when people refer to an experienced gamer as a noob. You can't be an experienced gamer and be a noob. Unless it's just a good natured taunt, then that's ok, but in terms of the definitions of these words, I reject the "gamer who is experienced, but is being a smacktard, or just plain sucking" definition of the word noob. If you suck, you could say you are being a noob, but you can't say you ARE a noob, unless you're kind of joking.

lol. My pet peeve anyways.

I have seen " n00bs. Such as, a player who has never bothered to go infantry, and then is "experienced" players who know almost nothing about the game and are n00bs. They are rare, but I have seen "experienced" players with so little knowledge that they are surprised at how much damage the bullets do and start complaining. I have actually been in the same squad as this person, who had also been playing for 3 months.

Ok well, if he doesn't even know how the game is then he's not experienced in my view, and is in fact a noob. :p

That's insulting to gay people tho =). heh.

Back in the Netrek Days (Internet era circa 1991!) we had:

"Newbie" - Someone one new, still learning the game.

"Twink"
- idiot/foolish player, refuses to learn or take advice, does non-clueful actions (see "clue" below)

"Hitler"
- player who purposely causes damage/problems to his own team, worse than a twink.

"Clue" - Player who "has a clue"/knowledgeable/good player

"Clue-stack" - A team made up of clue players, while the other team does not. Game ends in genocide for the other team rather quickly.

- JM40.

P.S. the ORIGINAL Internet Online Multiplayer Game: http://www.netrek.org

Also check http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Netrek

All other ideas/descendants/terms/coordination/lag compensation techniques/etc... are all grandfathered from this game. It is the original online "sport".
