any one else sick of the pathetic wisp of smoke you get out of the smoke nades?

you would get a bigger puff if you stamped out a cigarette on the floor.

Its just so ridiculous, i mean they take 5 secs to fully deploy and even then they just about cover the size of one player ingame not helpful when tryign to cross a road or soemthing. Hell its just a big "HEY SHOOT Me HERE I WAS STUPID ENOUGH TO UUSE SMOKE" sign.

the granadier kit smoke is perfect, but please please please can you re adjust the fart that the nade produces so its actually worth wile even thinking of using it?

*not aimed at devs or anything, i love this mod it just takes the piss to have such an unrealistic thing in a realistic mod.

I agree, there are several other threads about this where I posted clips of real life smokescreens and real life smokegrenades. I cant bother to dig them up but if you search you'll find them.

The grenadiersmoke is shit in comparison to the alternatives, if you ask me. '5 secs' and it has evaporated.
Have you ever seen an entire squad chuck smokegrenades in a covering line, and just waited the seconds until it provides cover? A solid wall of withstanding smoke will leave the enemy pretty confused at times...

but at least with the grenadiers smoke it covers everythign around and beyond you making it safer to run for cover. the standard smoke nades i have to disagree are total **** no matter how many are thrown.

WHAT?!?! have you played v0.5?

the g launched smoke sucks, its like 10 little clouds of smoke that shoot out in a circle.

the smoke nades will cover a whole street with smoke. but it would be nice to have a wind typ effect where the smoke kinda blows it abit, like it did in EOD for 1942. and the green officer smoke is pretty god damn worthless x100

seriously....it takes a while (longer then 5 seconds) but it fills a damn good area, and you can't even see right in front of you when your in the middle of it.

I find they offer tons of cover, it just takes a while.
The ones the medic carries are the best IMO, better then the launched ones, just slower to fill the area. The colored ones are trash for anything other then a signal though (as I would imagine it was intended)

Yeah man, I think you're just not waiting long enough. They take 3-5 seconds to start, but then there's a while on top of that before they're effective as cover. But once they are, they're really effective.

Officer smoke really isn't meant as cover. Pretty useless in a pub game, but in an organized one they're good for marking friendlies for incoming air strikes.

Edit: what is this quote doing here ?
Get rifleman kit, deploy 3 ammo bags at your feet and ask your squad mates to shoot 5 smokes grenades each, it will provide enough cover for an army !

Did you mean to quote me?

Every play .4? lol

I do agree that they need to be wider. They used to be really wide (and just perfect IMO) in one of the earlier versions of .5. (beta versions)

Very true... I use this tactic often.

As do I, which is why I wonder why he quoted me.

I never use smoke now for 'cover' to cross the street. It's simply not thick enough for me to feel safe, but most importantly, it takes forever for it to fully cover the area.

However, one useful thing I find with them is smoking the pathways from which the enemy will come from and just wait for them to break through the smoke. Its easy killing people who are coming out of the smoke since they can't see while in it, while you have the guns at the ready as they come out. :)

I use it when I'm getting shot by a sniper, you right click and it fall at your feet... and sometimes when I'm bored I get 3 ammo bags and cover the whole area in smoke...
Edit: Oh yeah, off topic, sorry
Back on topic:
The grenadier smoke grenade should really get thicker... you can see through it !

Yeah, I'll cover whole sections of Hills of Hamyong. It's fun to have "smkscrn" squad and just run around making a massive smoke corridor.

I rarely use smoke cos half the time it's a big signal of "I'm coming this way! and I'm being sneaky cos I'm using smoke!"

It does have it's moments though.

dropping a smoke in a house or bunker is pretty fun, so long as it has two entrances. You run in, and barely see anything until you're literally ontop of the enemy.

Early test version had that blown by the wind -kind of effect. The problem with it was that if the grenade landed upside down, the "wind" blew the smoke underground. Sometimes it went straight into the sky etc.

Heres a vid of one test version (was a bit exagerated but still): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DvXxKzYieTs
Imagine it going straight underground or to the sky like officer smoke... Doesn't really work...

Thats why it had to be made as a "ball" of smoke for now.

Theres probably a workaround to get it done properly but its not a priority at the moment.

Hmm... the new smoke should give much more cover than original vanilla smoke. Could you post a pic of medic smoke 25 secs after you've thrown it?
There may be a level of detail problem. Some particles are cut out for lower graphics settings. I might have cut out the primary effect at some LoD. It works fine in editor though...

At full settings it should look something like here (just white and not as high):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5JoF526933o
Watch the last secs. It covers about 20-25 oval-shaped area depending how the smokecan happens to land.
