does I've had a bit of a search but couldn't find what I am looking for,
can any body tell me how the tank sight works?, it shows you distance how can I adjust the angle of the barrel so I get a direct hit, atm I just aim at what I think is right fire, w8 for 10 sec for the freaking dust to settle and then see what dammage I have done?
a little help would be great,

Welcome to the forums.
I don't think the range markers, etc. on the tank sights actually work as they should. It's just a matter of experience and "feeling".

yeah the feeling works for me for now but it would be sweet if the sight actualy worked, what else do I want to know the range for?
my I'll put a few post its on my screen as my own sight hehe

depends what tank you are shooting from
both the T-90 and M1A2 have range finders with them and then, from exsperance you can use the marks on the gun sight to get the right evelation for the shot. but how much distance each shot is you will just have to do a trail and error, and what would be really good is if you can post your resualts on the forums after you have for every one to learn from

The rear of tanks is the weakest.

Is the top the turret also weak, i feel it should be so i try to get rockets in there if i'm above. I may just be being optimistic though...

could we get a hitpoint thing from the pr guys?, that would help,
I think that if you hit the turret from the back with a sabbot its wasted
it looked like it did a few times that's why,

is there any way we could get some thing like this
http://www.secretsofbattlefield.com/tankshits.html
that would be really usefull,
and if you hit a tank on the traks once with a normal shell, the tank should be inmobile
any body else got some usefull info on this topic?
cheers, Vas

Now you mentioned the idea of a tutorial I think maybe PR could get it's own version of that irritating beginners walkthrough (the one in that really annoying American commanders voice).
I think it'd help all the new folk out alot if before getting in a tank or something it told them "Before you drive a tank you must request the Crewman kit and be in the same... etc". Since so many people are unaware of how much more complex the game is I think it'd get people into it alot quicker.

As some one has already said, you need to get a feeling for it. One thing I can tell you is that there is less drop than in VBF2 or 2142.
One thing you can do is create your own local server with Al Basrah map.
Join USMC side and set up those jeeps and APC as targets (set them up on the runway so you have a clear target). Use the move marker to set them up every 50 meters for example. Than take the tank and practice shooting them. You will know if you hit them because you will get the "Team Vehicle Damage" message for every hit.

The joys of a community mod, is if you want information on something, go find out. To all you guys who want this. Go find out

We all contribute in different ways. (i've dont my fair share)
In a fixed position, once you know the elevation required to hit a particular point from another fixed point you can rely on soflam range indicators to judge the fire.

a little help would be great,
The tank sights do not work in PR like they do in real life (afaik modeling them right is not possible in BF2). You get the range, but you need to estimate the angle yourself. The sight offers you no direct help in that, although you can use the lines to aid in your estimation.
In real tanks the lines in the sight picture around the bullseye are there for two reasons; to estimate range to target when the laser range-finder doesn't work, and to estimate lead to a moving target when the fire control system doesn't work. So they are essentially there for manual backup, but they offer no help in leveling the gun to target for ballistic trajectory.
Unless there's a way to make BF2 engine automatically adjust gun angle according the range measurement, which I'm quite sure there isn't, we're unfortunately stuck with what we have.

My tip: Experience
I usually hit on the first shot.
Then tell the driver to move back really fast to aavoid te smoke lag and to see easierly.

I'll work on a video tutorial for tanks after my exams.

It gets alot harder to hit objects at range or small targets in general cause of the random deviation on the cannon. You shouldn't need to aim too much above your target as the shell doesn't have much drop.

Like said allready, at the ranges used in RM, in real life a tank wouldn't ever miss with the fire control system, nor would there be any noticable drop. Can't they just make the tank guns, you hit where you aim? I mean tankgrenades travel at mach 4 or something, at ranges under 1k you basicly aim where you want to hit and traveltime would barely be noticable. And deviation?? ... man todays tanks barely have any at huge ranges. Gunstabalizing would be nice aswell, cause now shooting while on the move while on an uneven terrain is allmost impossible.
Also in reallife the tankguns have a system where they put the smoke in a chamber for a short moment after firing, so the gunner can actually see if he scored a hit, this would be nice ingame aswell. Cause now, you just can't see shit
Anyway this is getting offtopic I guess, the man wanted a tutorial !!!

I wish BF2 allowed us to do that.

Actually, the smoke is realistic. Not because the gun itself would generate much smoke (it doesn't, thanks to the fume extractor) but because the muzzle blast will raise a LOT of dust and stuff from the ground. In real life the gunner usually can't see the target again before the round has already hit - thus making it very hard to see where the round actually landed.
