Remove the mini-map, but the normal map (M) should stay. Its like a soldier, if he needs see the map, he stops fight, find cover and take out the map from his pocket. In game, stop fight, find cover, take out you map from you pocket pressing M.

PERFECT !

But now we still need stay with this ugly mini-map in front of our vision. ARGH.

Seems only right i repeat my self for those unable to find my posts.......heheeee

I think YES becuase i successfully went ramboing on Quai River - the round Bosco/space/bob were playing tonight, and it was all due to my trusty minimap.
It enabled me to effectively locate and kill enemies with ease, most of the time they did not even see me coming. ALl the spotting was done by my teamates, all working in nice little squads - there teamwork, enabled my lone wolfing to be successfull on the kill front!

HOWEVER I actualy think NO for the moment.

Keep the mini map UNTIL PR has more big, wide open levels, and levels like Airport ext. are gone (small levels), then you may trash the damn thing but only then. I hope this can be done by 1.0!

IF you removed it now, life and death would rely on a tiny bit too much luck due to many levles being too cramped, with not enough room to flank/ avoid combat - many levles it is too difficult to pick your battlegrounds, and therefore you are forced into close combat too often, and close combat, due to lack of hardcore military training, is based on too much luck compared to more open combat, where fire/suppress/flank tactics WIN the day = requires SKILL.
COnclusion:

Loose the minimap, when PR has no maps that force players for significant proportions of the level in to close combat = help all aspecs of gameplay, not just mapping side.

This is exactly why it should be removed.

I don't think it should be removed in v.6, but in a later version it should be tried.

I would wait til we have most of the community playing pro like we used to in v.32, then add in the minimap when we are mature experience wise enough for it.

Removing will result in more TKs. Cant we just say that we are using the Land Warrior system?

I voted no just because the game is still a game. You are missing a huge amount of sensory information that you would normally have IRL, I think the minimap compensates for this loss of both visual and audible senses.

I can't believe that the community is so split on this - of course it should go. The map acts as a GPS already and the Minimap is a monstrosity in the top corner limiting vital peripheral vision. It's sanitised cheating imo

hoak FTW.
hoak wrote:Digressions about situational awareness are patently ridiculous; a real soldier does not sit in a comfy chair, sipping Mountain Dew, in air-conditioned comfort, focused on every minute detail, instantly able to shift his view without strain or risk, and he sure as hell does not have magic real-time telemetry out to 2+ Km telling updating him instantly to what's going on.

Ramboing... The magic 'Spin Map' mitigates or out-right completely prevents virtually all realistic squad tactics from even working; you don't need to use proper bounding or RTFA, just need a UAV and a peek at your spin map and you can Rambo or maneuver through just about anything but a well camped line of fire.

Also, its fairly important to note that those voting no have 3 nipples.

I voted yes becuz we dont need it, we only need one map and that is by pressing M. Thats enough, as someone has said, its just a waste of room.

^ 3 nipples

The only fear I have of the Devs removing the minimap is that it will turn more people into 'lone-wolfing' then teamwork oriented. As people are notoriously lazy and wish not to check the actual map because it will presumably interfere with there efficiency in combat.
So they just won't check it at all and resort to lone-wolfing.

Although on a personal note, I would like to see it gone.
