Sick of A-10s and Cobras ruining your day? Ruin theirs!

Well, I notice not many players do this. But I recommend setting up AA squads.

Essentially, you could do it with only 2 people. 3 people works better but the 3rd guy has to be really patient.

Go near the enemy airport, but within bounds as insurgents.

Each member should get the AA kit that spawns at the Palace and Industry respectively. The one at palace is INSIDE the palace building on the bottom level in the hallway. The one at the Industry is a bit harder to find, but there is also a machine gun and sniper rifle there. Its in the little courtyard. Not inside the main warehouse building.

Then get the 3rd guy to go policeman for ammo.

Make sure to coordinate the attacks. So spot the target, whether its A10, cobra or blackhawk. Wait for the 2nd tone, then wait for them to deploy flares. Make sure you still have that 2nd tone, then both of you fire at the same time. It takes two shots to destroy any chopper or plane. One will not be enough. You get two shots before you need more ammo. Also, try to fire while the targets are flying away from you, not flying at you.

Anyways. We need to start giving these pilots a run for their money. Don't let them bomb you and your team. Eventually, they will get so pissed off they'll send infantry, tanks, APCs, etc after your position. So be aware. I like to have a full squad. 2 anti air, 1 police, 1 mechanic with C4, 1 doctor, and 1 RPG blocking the North Bridge, so you can take out pretty much anything that comes your way.

When setting up a position, try to stay away from areas that see a lot of enemies on the ground. If you have an AA kit and there is already an AA squad, please either join it or give them the kit as there are only 2 AA kits in Al Basrah. The Anti Air guns are really useless against jets and they seem to be put in absurdly poor positions, e.g. in ditches with poor line of sight or behind really tall buildings. So unless there is infantry around, don't bother with AA guns. Stick with AA kits.

Anyways, good hunting!

Its really all a matter of coordination, this idea has been around since Basrah began, but its getting the players on the server to cooperate really. Anywho im all for it! Spread the message! I need some opposition up there!

The static AA guns are quite powerful. Have you used them post- .509 server-side patch? I can often take out cobras with them. Also T-62s are useful of course :D .

If you have all static AA guns and 2 grails, you can seriously wound the aircraft, making them RTB. Then on their way back, one grail can lock on so they deploy flares. Then the other fires. Since they're already wounded, this will likely result in a kill.

I think the best setup would be (for one squad) two grails, one policeman, and two jihad bikers. The grails can sport for the jihad bikers.

I've tried them all. Al Basrah has the most oppurtunities for varied tactics in my experience.

Plus if I was on a server that played other maps I wouldn't have a nice shiny ban-hammer :( .

I laughed :D

when I fly the A-10 and get a lock I don't normally deploy flares until I have a visual of a missile flying up my butt.. and then i take note of where it comes from and try to turn back and strafe it.. I have run into squads on berms near the airport, but i normally fly really low and you can get a visual of the enemy laying down trying to hide.. instant meat after I circle around, and I realize it won't be as easy after .6 with the speed increase, but I'll still give it a try ;) maybe increased view distance since we will be going so fast..

oh and I had to add, AL BASRAH FOR LIFE!

Is it a "suspect tactic"?

I've done this awhile ago on basra, alltho we used different tactics. We would use the ammo dumps for supply. 1 guy had AA somewhere inside the city, the other on the edge of town. We kept warning eachother for incoming planes helicopters, spotting them, voip etc. Most of the time, they passed the guy on edge of town, got hit, and ran straight into the 2nd guy with AA, or vice versa. In about 10 minutes we downed all their flying men and offcourse it started all over again, but it was very satisfying and VERY effective I must say. People were getting genuinely pissed off on the chat :)

There is actually a very good three position strategy i have used, but personally i am liking my runway repair kill tactic at the moment, and just a simple mobile squad with the famous AAA emplacement lure tactics.

Mongol and the regulars i play with know this tactic.

there is no way a A-10 pilot will see where we fire from, as unless they are flyhing as wingmen they wil be looking the other way when the round is fired.

A couple of RPG guys can make a good substitute for SA-7 against cobras. I dont even bother with grails on them. Eventually a point hungry cobra player will just hover in the wrong place.

I went 134-11 in a chopper last night on thors brigade.... three hour round.... apparently nobody was using those tactics, but it definately would have made it a lot more interesting. we ended up losing by 14 tickets.... :(

but during the round i did develop an interesting tactic for finding out where a lone sa7 soldier is, takes a minute or two and some balls, but you can square him away fairly easily, then nuke him.

im gonna fine tune the tactic a little then if its successful, ill post about it... otherwise, i could have just been getting lucky last night.

Glad to see someone else taking an interest in AA on al basrah, i have been on that map everynight for nearly 3 weeks and i always seemed to be the only one trying to do something about the a-10's and cobra's, if you spot me on i don't mind going ammo supply.

Few days ago I killed an AA squad outside of Airport, about 6 guys with RPGs. I still dont know how they missed every shot on my A10.

See, I had a very organized 6 man squad. We had a spawn car hidden, a technical for emergency ammo, and a motorcycle, just cause. All hidden behind some of the ruins near North bridge on Basrah.

One guy C4ed the bridge, another had an RPG ready. We had one guy go doctor, just incase we started bleeding out, and we was good for killing any infantry.

Two AA guys, myself and a friend up on this little hill, so we could see better, but we could always get down and back easily to avoid strafing runs. We used the ruins pretty effectively.

We also had a policeman feeding us ammo.

We knocked out every single thing in the air. Eventually, we had TWO squads attack us. One tank, one APC and some infantry from the north. Some snipers, infantry and a hummer from the south, and a few infantry from the west. It was a pretty elaborate attempt to get rid of us. Fortunately for us, we managed to get the tank onto the bridge, blew it up, RPGed the APC and just shot down the infantry resistance.

Then we went back to killing choppers. Especially blackhawks...mmm yeah!

So if you're insurgent on Basrah, try to get roadblock/AA squad. If you have one AA kit and the other is missing, ask around and try to work together. I doubt any pilots could have stopped us, short of calling in a few armored squads to approach us at different angles.

Anyways. I like to cheer for the underdog... GO AA INF! HUZZAH!

yes it seems pretty effective, but the guy who shot me down... he was a lone ranger there was no one with him. he had* a jihad car and a SA-7 he was on the south side of the airport north of village, behind the "seawall"

Guerra,

You weren't by any chance playing last night were you? I remember someone with a name similar to you who was giving me (the A-10) serious migraines with the SA7.

Was it on Tactical Gamer or DevFile? If so, then yes. On TG especially we had a very organized AA squad. Jacques in the box, FEAR Sanada, Snoopicus to name a few.

Was rather effective I'd say. I love pissing off Basrah pilots, because whenever I want to fly, I get lots of teamkills, lots of blocks, lots of stolen aircraft, etc.

They seriously need to limit how many pilot kits the same player can get in one match. I say you get 2 pilot kits per round. After that, too bad. So it forces pilots to eject. If you're team killed with the pilot kit, then the person who did it loses any pilot kits he/she might get.

But yes, I'm extremely good with the AA kits, especially when I have a teammate shooting with me. So if you were on TG lastnight, it was Jacques and I purging the skies of yankees.

VIVE LA RESISTANCE!
