Dont you guys ever get tired of Al Basrah? I mean, its a great map thats fun to play, and servers like Devfile are well run, but the one of the few things that I could never stand in the 'nilla BF games is when a server would run one map over and over again, with no change in map rotation. It gets kinda old after a few WEEKS. There are SO many other great maps in this mod, and I love playing it when I can, but between the crappy, almost always full short spawn servers (which I will not join even with spots) and the one map servers that, beyond me, are always full (I will only join these if there are NO servers open, and only for about a round at most).

Yes, I am picky, but I play for entertainment, and the same thing match after match in the same environment, no matter how fun, just isnt entertaining for me after a while. I am ACTUALLY to the point that when I see the Al Basrah loading screen, I start dreading the match ahead, and some of the time I will even resort to leaving that server. Ive been in great matches in this map, with fun people and some of the best teamwork Ive ever partcipated in, but despite that, Al Basrah is to me now in the same category as Strike at Karkand, Road to Jalalabad, and Wake 2007: overplayed to death.

Oh, and before I forget, I am in no way complaining to the Devs about Al Basrah (which I still consider a very well done map, no matter how little I play it), nor am I directly complaining about the Devfile server. Im just stating my views, and I am fully expecting the classy "Dont play teh game or teh map n00b if you dont like it!!1!!1" response. I would just like to know if anyone shares my views, and why or why not.

*Sigh*...I guess I better put up my flame shield before the Basrah squad burns me at the stake...Ill bet this even gets locked soon. Oh well, do what you will.

:-P

nah I can never get tired of Al Basrah, round after round.. even if they take 4 hours to finish one! ok, that kind of makes me mad, but it means that the battle is being well fought on both sides, I guess

The only map that can not be played to death is :33_love: Jabal :33_love: because after 2 hours of intense Jabal, it plays you to death

Crappy jokes aside, yes I completely agree with you, not much to add really.

Many other servers such as Tactical Gamer have rotation for maps. Try em out ;)

I like Al Basrah because it offers so many different kinds of operations. You can go spec ops behind enemy lines. You can go mech. inf. You can go airborne. You can go armor. You can go in a hummer convoy. You can go cobra or A-10. You can command.

There's just a lot of equally useful tasks for the player to try out, and there's a huge amount of strategy involved.

Unfortunately the map also has a lot of toys and it seems to attract retards. But I've been kicking on average three teamswitchers per round, so hopefully the tards are being weeded out.

Tactical Gamer sucks. but definitely, go check them out :-P sorry I don't want this to turn into a community bashing thread.. does Tactical Gamer use server side mods on PR?

No.

all PR server administrators have the option of turning on and off the kick for players that are not in a squad after 60 or whatever seconds? It's not an issue, I always join squads, just wondering if that was built into PR

I steer clear of Devfile for this reason. When there's no admin present it's gets ugly. I'm not trying to be disrespectful, it's just that EVERY time I've played on the server there have been major problems with tkers. I'm sure it's a better place when an admin is present.

I guess what really caused me to have this attitude towards Basrah is the fact that it seemed like whenever I would come on to play, every single populated server would be on that or EJOD (which seems to be just as played as Basrah to me). Not only that, it just seems like most of the time Basrah involves 10 people waiting to pilot the A10s or the Cobras, while the BHs are stuck with the F students of flight academy, causing way too much grief in getting across the map (although 2 A10s colliding head on in mid air while they were both bombing South VCP showed me that some A10 pilots arent at the top of their game either  )

Ive never had a chance to even try some of the maps in a match, and some others that I want to play more with some good teamwork (such as Hills of Hamgyong, has anyone EVER been on a winning Brit team on that map??) are only ever played on the shortspawn-lonewolf-everyone-has-a-rocket-launcher servers. :-( I guess Basrah IS the do everything map, while the vBF2 one map servers were the ones that ran the point farming maps (Jalalabad inf. only anyone :x )

Also, extraction mode seems to be at a loss for players. I would really like to participate in a good extraction match, just gotta wait for one to have people playing...

From a server perspective, it fills the slots. We tried running british only maps, didn't work. Someone suggested a 24/7 Al Basrah awhile back and boom its been going steady ever since. We thought with the success of that lets put up a 32 player, so we came here and asked the community what maps they wanted to see run and we ran that. It was empty for a week before we shut it down. It fills the slots.

I would like to see some 24/7 servers, as even though i have 1.5 gigs, loading is horrendous for my celeron and crappy hd.

They save me time for loading.

Plus Basrah deserves one :)

Makes sense, if the community wanted it and it draws in players. I just wish that there WERE more people who wanted to play the British (or even some of the less played American) maps. Scaling the cliffs to the bunkers in Hills of Hamgyong with grapling hooks up to face the enemy through a shield of smoke grenades is one of the coolest feelings, very Pointe Du Hoc.

Since Al Basrah draws in so many players, let me ask this question: would changing the game mode to Extraction for 1-2 rounds after 2 rounds of AASv2 hurt the server at all? If a server were to do this I think Devfile would be the place for it. It might still be Al Basrah, but it plays so much different (Ive played it once with like 10 people, epic even then  ) Personally, I think something like this would rejuvenate my interest in the map (although I dont expect such a change just because Im currently tired of Basrah, Im just wondering ;) ).

Well aparently Basrah will turn into a British map once all of the Brit equipment is made. Which the addition of the Merlin on that map is going to be so cool. And as for Extraction, the Devfile server ran that exact rotaion for mabye a week or two and I loved it. But I think there was a big problem of both people not knowing how to play and people leaving the server. So I guess they got rid of the Extract maps.

Actually the other day I wanted to play extraction really bad, so I went into an empty server and just screwed around until some people joined. So then we had small rounds until about 10 people had joined and it was pretty fun. But then the server crashed :-(

The problem with extract is:
a) What you mean I can't just run around and shoot things?
b) Team work? Screw that I'm going to Al Bashrah be be a T337 A-10 whore
c) If its a rotating server and ppl are not paying attention it takes 10 minutes for the extrat team to realise what they've go to do in the next 5 min or loose

It amazes me how you guys can play the same map over and over and over again without a map change. Two rounds is enough for me. Three in a row and I'm so bored I can barely take it. Four+? Forgetaboutit!

yes, i do get worn out on albasrah. Two rounds is plenty for me.

what!!!!!!!! NO!!! :-x .. . oh, and its true! it was funny when the whole team would go into defensive mode as insurgents and not even realize the map was xtract
