Anyone here play on a laptop? If so, do you use integrated sound or the Audigy 2 pcmcia sound card? How well does the sound play using either or?

I just recently purchased a Dell Inspiron 9300 laptop with a 17" widescreen display, 1.73GHz Pentium M, 1GB DDR2, and a 256MB GeForce 6800. I did not get the external sound card, but am wondering if it's worth it. It's about $120 CAD (100 USD).

iv got a Dell XPS Laptop with 3.4 ghz intel 1gb or ram ati9700 im not sure what iv got for a sound card an eather way its the only system iv played BF2 on so i wouldnt know what to compare it to

thats a nice looking laptop beck, i went for the desktop though. my friends got a pretty nice cyberpower laptop and so far ive seen him run everything hes tried and run it pretty well.

Well, it works like a charm, with both the onboard sound card, and the Audigy 2 ZS PCMCIA card, he plays mostly with the Audigy 2 ZS as he only plays Bf2 at home, works great with his Creative Gigaworks 7.1 sound system. No problem what so ever.. So go for it

yea, it sounds fine i dont have anything to compare it to

i love my laptop only drawback is its impossible to upgrade hopefully within 6months ill be able to get a kick *** desk top

The reason I ask is because in DC I had trouble using the integrated sound so I went out bought an SBLive which fixed all my sound issues. I just want to be sure I won't really have any sound issues on the laptop. I think it will pretty much replace my desktop for now.

Two weeks ago i also bought An Inspiron 9300 which i use to play BF2 and PRMM, Mine is a 1.86 Ghz, 1Gb DDR2 SODIMM RAM, with the 128 Mb X300 (Radeon) GFX card, (also 17")

The screen is so good for gamin, resolution is 1440 by 900 so its widescreen, makes for a great game, especially when flying. I've had no trouble with the built in soundcard - it works just fine and upgrading it at any price is a rip off as its a good card as it is.

Yeah, but the external card gives you surround sound if you have the speakers for it. How does BF2 run on the x300 card? I actually ended up cancelling my order for now. I am waiting til the end of Sept to buy it again since I'm hoping for a bonus at work.

BF plays fine on the X300 with all settings to medium, anti-aliasing at x2 and 1024 by 768 mode. (32 bit) On high though it becomes painfully judery. I would recommend getting the 128mb X300 - because the processor that goes in the inspiron 9300 is at best 1.86 ghz and as far as BF2 goes the 1.86mhz processor will not be able to keep up with the 256mb GFX card if the settings are set to full, and if you cant put the settings on full you may aswell go and get a lower grade card and spend the money on something that matters more like the RAM. I started out with 1 x 512 mb chip but added another 512 myself (as its cheaper to do it that way than to buy 1gb straight from dell. BEWARE - dell make their money by extorting the price of the RAM) and the game and PC in general absoluteley flies with 1GB of ram.

I run 3Dstudio Max ,Photoshop, Dreamweaver and flash, often two or three of those at a time nad the PC runs smooth as ever. 3DSMax has painful render times but otherwise its a great PC, im thrilled with it.

My only gripe with it is that its processor is slower than need be and it doesnt take a dual core processor like the pentium 4 HT which produces (on a technicality) up to 8Ghz of processing power, although it is limitied to much lower by the FSB, so operates nicely at around 3-4 Ghz.

In terms of stability my 9300 is as good as ever, it does crash occasionaly but that is normally my fault for asking too much of it. Battery life if thats an issue is low, the stock battery will last 2 hours if ur activley using hte PC, about 20 hours in standby and about 32 in hibernation.

That's why I would go with the free memory upgrade deals. The stock battery is 6 cell, which is why I'd go for the 9 cell.

Yea the deals on at the moment are good, i had a £250 off (around $480) and free delivery when i bought it, mine came to £1190 - about $2300,

Battery never bothered me as i wanted a portable/ mobile computer but i didnt want to actually use it on the move, just be able to carry it from one location to another. But if you buy the 9 cell battery and buy it with the free double memory offer i think you wont be dissappointed by it at all, its a very powerful machine and alot more cost effective than the Inspiron XPS

I was thinking about the Gen 2. It's hard because I work with a lot of computer geeks and I have tech eny and need to match or outbeat them. It's a horrible disease. I do believe the 9300 is enough to suit my needs. I would still go with the 6800 though. I need to be able to play in high res from time to time. This system will be a desktop replacement more or less. I am still tempted by the gen 2 but damn it's almost double in price for a little more power.

Yea i felt very much the same about the gen 2, it really is a beast of a machine but i felt that the additional cost just didnt match its performance. I mean for the same price you could easily get literally the best desktop system available next to a cray supercomputer lol.
