Should you be able to drive an enemy "soft-skinned vehicle" (as the Brits call them)

The fact that this currently isn't possible bugs me more than a bit on the Brits vrs Insurgents maps, as I've experienced several times when it could have saved my life. I can understand a soldier not being able to drive an enemy tank, helicopter, jet, or APC, but saying that British soldier would be unable to hop into an enemy technical for a quick getaway is more than a bit extreme.

What do you think? Or more importantly, why?

So that your own team will blow up your car to little pieces?

Think of it as having no keys.

*sigh*

You KNOW that's flawed logic. If we want to design the game around avoiding teamkills, why not give one team bright blue uniforms and the other bright red?

Since people never voice agreement to suggestions only disagreement, I guess two replies means I'm getting tons of support.

Didn't mean to shoot your suggestion down mate or be disrespectful to your input, without them there would be no progress anywhere.

It's just how I viewed it when I thought about it.

No problem. I don't doubt you believed what you said. I'm just annoyed by the general trend I'm seeing on this part of the forums.

Real soldiers would never get in an enemy vehicle. At least I wouldn't.

Even if you were stuck behind the enemy lines ?

It happen to me all the time in game, the BH bring us behind the enemy CP and we have to walk for 5 minutes while there are 2 enemy jeeps parked there... I agree that driving an enemy vehicle in your own base will get you teamkilled but not in the middle of the enemy base... in the best situation the enemies will thinks you are friendly and won't shoot you...

It should be "you shouldn't do that" and not "you can't do that"...

if you didn't have the keys to said vehicle, wouldn't no-one but the first person to use the vehicle have the keys, i mean, its not like insurgents have a master key that every insurgent carries that allows them to drive any vehicle not marked as US or British

The thing is, this section's been around for a long time. Most things you could come up with are either being worked on, or have at least been discussed in the past.

Yes, but they know to check the glove-box.

actually it's a technical problem in the engine that . uh.. you can make up all kinds of rationalizations for hehe...

...but the REAL reason is that if the vehicles are NOT locked to teams, when you get out of a vehicle it leaves a grey vehicle on the minimap visible to BOTH teams. Sorta like "we're over here!!!".

We tried to work around that, but it didn't work, so we decided to lock almost all vehicles to avoid that.

well if that is the case, lock them. Well anyway Insurgents are just criminals that steal anything and just will just hot-wire it.

My main problem with it is that on maps like Basrah if the US leaves .50 cal equipped Humvees laying around in the city we should be able to climb into the gun and use it at the very least.

again a technical limitation of the engine we tried to work around and the current solution was the best compromise we could come up with given the limitations.
