Geting clear of a chopper

It is critical when exiting a blackhawk to get clear of the chopper.
Ever seen a Vietnam LZ? what they did is run out 4-8 paces and dive to the deck, then provide cover. In PR, the choppers may get hit by RPGs or a piece of terrain, they need space to maneuver. It could blow up, it could turn and the pilot may run you over if your not clear when he takes off.

Run 4-8 paces, dive and provide cover when exiting a chopper.

yeah ive seen in alot of videos of choppers from vietnam to present that when the infantry disembarks they make a small perimeter around the chopper, usually prone, im assuming to provide cover for the choppers exit.

Yes, people, please do that. Otherwise the pilots among us (me for one) will just get punished for TKs every time they'll have to turn the chopper before takeoff or keep close to the ground upon takeoff. I do this a lot in Jabal; when I drop troops off on the road leading from Dam to Bridge, I take off, rise a few feet, then throttle up and move forwards a few feet above the ground in order to avoid any fire from the other side of the mountains.

I consider myself to be a fairly ok pilot i'm still learned so when i drop a squad off there have been times when i've lost control of the LB and its turned over..yes i know i'm a noob but it happens once in a while.
Chopper pilot can be a difficult job with no rewards except helping out your team so be patient please.

yes I think anyone who stands around beside the chopper before it takes off is asking to be Tked basically.

Always grab a "beach-head" even if you are jumping out of a car!

I've got many many many kills on Muttrah cause ppl aren't fast enough at moving away from the helo before my RPG blows it to bits :)

Always try to keep the rear clear, too. Assuming the LB/BH/whatever comes in straight, he can go backwards the same way he came in.

That is the best way, if you have not been compromised from behind you should always just lift 5 - 10 feet and back up.

I usually switch to 3 round burst when in the chopper and as soon as I hit the ground I run straight out and get ready to drop, spray and pray. I never thought about telling my squad mates to do this though as I just assumed most people would think to secure the area ASAP. I sometimes try to drop smoke as we are coming in but it usually is hard to hit the LZ area properly with the smoke.

Obviously it depends on the ground situation as to what to do when exiting the chopper.

If the LZ is safe, you can run to buildings or tree ect, After you run clear!

Al Basra, BH, SW of mousqe
I land from the east on a L shapped road, only able to put dow a the Bottom of the long section of the L, The fence is in my face and the tail was on or close to a Pipe stack or car. I need to turn left (south) in order to take off. I turn and I see I TKd a guy, He was on my Left, and I was turning left, I hit him with the door area! he was close enoph to touch the BH, 5 seconds after touchdown!

It really is a terrible thing when you've been flying non-stop for 8 or so minutes solely providing support for your troops, but when you drop off and strafe just two inches in the wrong direction and some ******* punishes you, lets just put it this way, between AA, Flying Blind, answering every request, and not crashing a pilot is stressed enough as it is, punishing a TK thats your fault just makes us pilots more stressed. no one needs that. it really does feel good to drop off 6 people and get 6 "hey, thanks" even if it is a voice macro, they feel more appreciated.
