SOFLAM ready in 0.6?

I was wondering if we'll finally see the SOFLAM be able to paint targets on the jet HUDS in 0.6.

Devs? Any comments?

Also, can people submit maps they made for inclusion in PR?

Not a DEV, but i have gotten the Impression from previous DEV comments, the earliest we will see somekind of target designation is 0.7.

This is due to the difficulty in implamenting a working system, under the heavy constraints of the BF2 engine, however i believe they have and are working extremely hard to create and resolve any problems to due with such a system.

wont come until we finish the second part of a jets overhaul, so v0.7. And uh.. hopefully we can make it work hehe. Thus far I think the thing we have hacked together works for static areas / objects.. just not working too well on vehicles.

Sounds promising. Keep ripping at that code eggman. If this works this is one more thing that PR will achieve that DICE could not figure out.

That's so sweet.

I was also thinking that instead of having the jet bombs 'lock' on to a target, they could just have it so that wherever the SOFLAM is pointed, a green rectangle icon would show up on the jet HUD's - showing the pilots where the bombs need to fall.

Having it done this way still requires some pilot skill to drop the munitions accurately.

Doesn't affect me, since i'm not a pilot

but sounds awesome

If you guys remember the laser guided missile in the F15 and the Su34 and such, the co pilot got the triangle and square targets, and could sort of lock on them, but it was mostly about keeping the cross hair on the target, and guide it in.

I don't think it matters if you can lock onto the target or not, just to get a visible would be enough.

Thats why we need the return of two seaters. Single seated jets hamper the great teamwork element of PR. I miss two seater jets more than anything else.

Same here; with a good pilot that jet could take out every tank on hte map (mainly Clean Sweep).

a 2 seater gives the fighter pilots something to chase too!

Okay that vid isn't exactly what I expect from a SOFLAM, it's just binding call for artillery to left click.

With a proper commander setting target way points for pilots, jets are an incredible asset to a team. The only problem is that it's incredibly rare that someone wants to be commander - nevermind actually setting way points.

If PR's mission is to be as realistic as possible, they should stick with the single seater jets and mark the HUDS with an impact icon with the SOFLAMS.

This would bring pilot/infantry teamwork to a new level.

You thought that was sweet the same guy also made a code for an unmanned airstrike http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yk9lIlJY0mM

That looks pretty cool but I think its far from what the PR devs are trying to do with lax0r designation.

Well, hot damn.

PR needs this is as a commander asset for the maps with no jets.

That airstrike is awesome. If he could make a cruise missile strike that would be perfect for PR.

Dude this is awesome, Airstrikes in the current battlefield are very common. Plus this doesn't require a teammember to fly the plane, thus keeping the infantry strong and NOT sitting at the Al Basrah airport slap d1cking around. Commander really needs to be more fun to play, cause no one does it now...I know new stuff is coming in, but this is what would make it more fun. I'd love to see this brought in, I'm sure 10 guys will whine about it being to powerful or whatever, but it could easily be balanced out.

Cruise missles too!! You could make that bomber a B2 maybe eh?

Something like that, with a moveable target-marker, would be really cool. You could request air-support, with the pilots actually having to do something :p

Nah, a lot of multi role fighters, bombers, air superiority jets are two seaters. They are bigger, have larger payload. F16 has a very limited role in modern combat due to asymmetry of technology.
