I doubt the wide availability of such weapons to todays insurgents but im not expert, nor can i be bothered to check.

Also, thats quite overpowered really, for use by insurgents. A fully auto, silenced sniper rifle?...Would kill gamplay like no other.

...mongol...

yes, but I bet you thought the same of an anti-chopper, .50 calibre sniper too.

maybe to the militia faction? Would suit them better than the insurgents.
And the damage wouldn't be anything like the other sniper rifles, it's not like this one is shooting 7.62 x 51mm. So it would be more like the current chinese riflemans weapon, a very silent rifle with a scope and capable of full auto.

it might be not so common, but its a cool gun and (even more important) since a long time the first weapon suggestion that is not for the US (or concerning the MEC G3), so I think it would be a great addition, fitting to the Militia

Lucky Bast*rd, The VSS Vintorez is a Spetsnaz weapon and is extreamly rare to see outside of Russia the ammunition is very hard to come by also and for the insurgents...Please don't make me laugh

Muzzle velocity like an airgun.

It's at that MV because it's beloew the supersonic velocity.

Vintores for insurgents?

Maybe militia, but it still seems overkill.

The biggest difference between a rifle round and a pistol round is the powder charge, if its moving at subsonic velocities then it can't be all that much more powerful then a larger caliber handgun round

Truth. Thats what the insurgents need, not top class, ultra rare Russian SF gear. An enfield would be a superb addition.

Oh yeah, Fearosius, the last picture in your post is of a VSS conversion for the Tokyo Marui AK-47 airsoft gun which (like the Dragunov conversion for the same gun) bares only a superfical resemblence to the real steel.

As for the addition of the VSS to anything but one of the true military factions, it makes no sense. The rifle its self is very rare inside the Russian armed forces, let alone anywhere else. Like the weapons (such as the Val and Groza assault rifles) its used in the ammuntion is also exeedingly rare outside of Russian SF units and would be prohibitivly expensive and difficult to aquire for groups of insurgents or malitia.

If they absoluetly need a suppresed long range weapon, a suppressed hunting rifle or an AKMN with a PBS-1 and subsonic rounds would be rather more believeable than a VSS (or any of the 9x39mm weapons)

Naaah if the bullit weighs around 15 g it sure is more powerfull. but then the bullet drop would be emmense! Like shooting a motar :D
