G3 needs adjusting!! (also the mp5)

This is a 7.62 NATO weapon and SHOULD NOT fire like a carbine, as in this mod (feels basically like in vanilla BF2).
In real life the weapon is unusable in fully automatic fire at anything past point blank range because of the muzzle climb in this caliber. The 7.62 NATO caliber is a much larger round than either the 7.62 Soviet (AK47) or the 5.56x45mm (M16, L85, M4).
2 important adjustments need to be made to this weapon in the game. Increased recoil, and increased power. Ideally this should be a 1 hit weapon or at the very most 2 for the sake of gameplay (it should be roughly at the level of the M14 in terms of power). Likewise the recoil should be increased so you cannot fire it on target in fully automatic fire.
This is a full sized, battle rifle caliber, not a little carbine round!! Compare the size of the magazine in this weapon in a real life-picture to those of the M16 or Ak47. There is no comparing. The weapon is blatantly not true to life as it is right now in the game.

Also, the MP5 feels slightly overpowered. Consider in real life it fires 9mm rounds (pistol rounds), not rifle rounds as a shortened carbine like the M4 does. It should be less powerful in the game especially past 20m or so. It needs adjusting also, but not a complete rewrite of its characteristics like the G3 does.

Currently, there is no MP5 in the mod...

And what does the MEC Spec Ops unit carry?

Heh, that's not an MP5 (good, constructive post, bosco :p ), it's an HK53, an MP5-sized 5.56 NATO weapon. Thus, it's quite deadly. I myself love the thing.

EDIT: Beat Bob to it!

I could have sworn it was an MP5. Even sounds like one. I guess if it's a 5.56 carbine then the comment doesn't apply.
However the G3 still needs adjusting.

It looks a lot like an MP5, I agree (not that that's a bad thing). And the G3 could do with a wee bit more recoil.

This has, however, been suggested a million times before, and somebody's bound to post something along the lines of USE SEARCH! soon.

It doesnt need just a little more recoil. A 7.62 NATO doesnt fire like that. Needs significantly more both recoil and power. Like I said it should fire like the M14, maybe a "wee bit" less power. Get a clue.

That would be a HK53, a gun that looks nothing like an MP5

Easy there.

The "wee bit" was one of my famous understatements.

Aaaaah, I wouldn't say that. IRL they are quite similar, but the HK53 model isn't exactly spot-on.

you just have to look at the HK-53s mag, its a lot huger than the tiny MP5 mag

Haha KP, that's what you get from beeing nice.

I second that!

The lower recoil seems to be there out of gameplay purposes, not realism. Rifle has a 20 round mag after all. I guess a slight increase won't hurt though

Yeah, next time I'm gonna answer

Note the deeper, ribbed magazine, longer reciver, long, four pronged flash hider (well, actually having a flash hider, which the MP5s in BF2 dont as they're neither MP5Js or MP5Fs) and other features.

For your comparison:

HK53A4(possibly A2) (one with a solid stock, rather than the slither stock from PR, but same difference)

That HK53 in the game looks just like the MP5 so dont try to get smart. If you look at the mag and mag well it's obviously not the MP5 but those are details. Not something I looked at in the game image the only 1 or 2 times I used the weapon. And now stop drifting away from the topic. *edit just saw that last post with the real life pics which makes the difference much clearer
This is about the unrealistic game version of the G3, and it needs to get adjusted. Not just for recoil. It's a goddamn 7.62x51mm.

...Those are details?, its a whole different calibre, and its not hard to get smart when the poster is so clueless.

And to stay on topic, the 7.62 is a powerful round, and i agree that the recoil that it has at the moment doesnt pay it justice, then again, neither does the damage.

A rule of thumb I've learned over the years is never to rip on folk who's sig is more sophisticated than one's own.

One thing i've been doing lately to try different things is create that SP (single player) copy of PR, then scour these (and bfsp's) forums for clues on how to change what I want to change. It's actually quite a bit of fun!

That kills in two or three shots. No problem. There's been a lot of debates about 7.62 vs 5.56 in terms of damage IRL, and it's not just a matter of bigger round = bigger hole = more damage.

More recoil, yes, more damage unneeded.

The problem is KP, as im sure youll agree, there isnt any less powerful weapons available for the MEC apart from the HK53 (and that obscure shotgun that i cant remember the name of), id like to see some weapons that would actually be suitable for the CQB fighting which this game is based around.

Stop talking about the HK, its settled.
The 5.56 vs 7.62 debate is about the 7.62x39mm Soviet round, not the 7.62 NATO. It is an M16 vs AK47 debate. Like I said, get a friggin clue before ruining the thread. And blackwater, tahts exactly what I was getting at. The G3 needs to be more powerful and have mroe recoil in the game. As it is right now it's completely unrealistic. Either they change to a different caliber weapon to match the other factions' rifles or they adjust it to behave more like the M14 (same caliber, another full sized battle rifle as opposed to a carbine "rifle").
