Disable vehicles in water instead of exploding them

I think when you drive a jeep into some water, instead of taking damage and then exploding, it should take no damage, and at the time at which it would have exploded, the jeep should be disabled for the rest of the round. (Maybe going to like a water_wreck mode or something, and then it should disappear a couple minutes later I guess)

Would the end result be that vehicle does not respawn during the current round? If so would all of the vehicles that get detroyed by enemy fire still respawn like they currently do? Doesn't this create a bit of a weird scenario that its better to blow up then drown? (Better to burn out then fade away... ;-) )

Interesting idea, might discourage stupid driving  without punishing dangerous driving i.e. driving into and RPG.

Cheers,

I kinda agree with that. It certainly isn't realistic to have to run away from any vehicle that gets wet.

You could get trapped inside.

Anyway, I think the BF2 engine can lower the damage pf the water, but this will create a "paradoxx" and be exxploited (double X makes it sound "dirty" :) )

And afer all have abandoned ship?
That would be stupid if one new player (not nessecerily a n0oB) drives one teams MBT into what he though was shallow water?

Well, if we can get "trapped" inside our vehicle under water, the humvee should be the exception because of the back of the vehicle has no trunk and it's all open

What if your seat belt doesn't open, and your knife just fell out the window?

Lol, add a 3 meter tall tube on the hatch of the tank when it drives into deep water :p

snorkel tank!

i hate the exploding water phenomenon as well. it should be changed if possible.

When the vehicle falls into deeper water, the engines and controls should stop working just like a non-pilot or non-crewman hops in a heli or APC. The drivers/passengers should get out immediatly or like I mention earlier the non-pilot getting in the heli effect players die if the vehicle is left in the water. Eventually it should blow up just like idle cars randomly explode when not used (except in pr the times increase) then the time to respawn back.

Honestly, shouldn't the tanks be able to roll through rivers? How about making it only do minor damage to tank but still wreck cars and AA vehicles. It would be awesome to drive through a river.

not important at all but a compromise for those who are picky enough to want it, i suggest a compromise.
This would be that viechles sustain for 1min in water. If a viechle gets completely submerged by water and the crew escape, they should be caused to have a bleeding effect, just as those who leave a viechle on fire. Simulation for not enjoying the drowning sensation.

You could 'shoot' it with right mouse button, and it would work like a grappling hook. In right angle, you could tow the support vehicle on top of the buildings and fix the helicopters.
Think that is classed hard coded ^^

hmm don't think the engine supports it ^^

Yeah i definitely agree, it should take longer to spawn again, that way its a punnishment for being retarded and driving in to a river

I think the ultimate realism in this is the vehicle remaining disabled and NOT blowing up. Too long to respawn? Get a cobra, other tank or an engineer to blow it up. I've heard that in reality, a tank crew has to destroy their tank should it be damaged beyond a certain point.
Besides, who's fault is it that the vehicle ended up in there anyway?

If it was possible ... OMG I LOVE IT! I can imagine dragging the wreck back to main base before repairing it!! Nice!

Now my thoughts:
Being Project Reality, I like to think we as players perfer the harder style of gameplay, including harsher penalties. I like the system as it is (minus vehicles on fire in water), but what about a limited number of respawns. Lets say for example that a Cobra can only respawn 3 times, a Jeep 10, a Tank 5 etc making assets worth protecting.

The idea is that after 2 minutes or whatever, the vehicle would blow up just like abandoned vehicles do.
