ATI Graphics issues on PR

The only reason I'm posting this on the PR forum is because this is the only mod I play now and I've encountered an issue for the first time today. Basically, I entered some server in Texas and I had a chance to fly the A10 on Basra without much lag (finally). As soon as I entered the plane, the inside of the plane just turned into a black silhouette and a few seconds later it transformed into some metallic reflective material as the skin. I thought this was somewhat abnormal but I kept flying for a while. After that, I noticed that in certain parts of the maps, the terrain just turned black. I had an issue like this on my old 9800pro where the plants and zoomed in ironsights were just replaced with a black blob. My 9800 died soon afterwards but my new card (x1600 pro) which I got just half a year ago seems to be showing the same symptoms.
A couple of notes that might be helpful. I had this issue with a color space appended to my desktop that would change everytime I ended battlefield 2. Downloading new drivers + CCC for the graphics card fixed this issue but I started getting BSODs every now and then. I kind of ignored them since they happened after I finished playing and tried to turn off the game.
Any help?

Are there any tools I can use to check temperature and whatnot? I'm not too sure how to go about this.

I still think that BF2 eats old video cards for breakfast... it killed mine (9800pro) and a bunch of others in the past year (just search the forums for crash to restart). Its more common in PR because it pushes the limits of the system imo.

ya, it killed my 9800 pro too...

And I think it's what caused my latest batch of artifacting.

Wow, this is truly a thread entirely full of helpful and educated posts with tons of research and factual information.

And so both you and I do the same and follow suit.

Download ATITool. I've been using it for years. It measures temperature and displays it in the taskbar, you can set fan speeds based on the temp, you can overclock, etc. It's a great piece of software.

x2
Some ATi manufacturors have an interesting habit of setting the GPU fan/cooler to very low amounts, and under load ATi's get quite hot. Update your card BIOS if needs be, or just use something like Ati Tray Tools or the likes to set your fan running high.

ATI user here & I've had the same problem a couple of times, and it's no big worry

(Black bits of land, guns look like they're coated in black, shiny, PVC..... mmmmmmm Project Fetish!).
My solution is uninstall PR, reinstall PR and that's it fixed. I think it's just a corruption with the files,
not your GPU as I've NEVER seen it on ANY other game. Trust me, there's nothing wrong with your mobo or other hardware; it's a software issue.
Hope this helps.
p.s. ATI Tray Tools (Get it here:
http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=733) causes less problems than ATI tools (as far as my machine is concerned, I'm not entering into a war re ATITool v ATI Tray Tools).
Like ATITool, it gives you GPU & GPU environment temperature monitoring in your tray notification area & fan control but has a handy little bench comparison utility so you can see how your rig shapes up versus similar rigs.

I've had the same issues with my 9800 pro ... and, as Eggenberg says, I've always chalked the issues up as corrupted files (I usually just reinstall my ATI drivers) ... I did get a bit worried after reading about all of the dead 9800 cards ... I noticed a couple of months back that one of the pins on my power connection is burnt/black so I figure that the writing is on the wall for this card
One last note ... I've been using the latest warcat drivers from
http://www.tweaksrus.com/ and have had far less problems crashing out than I did with the standard ATI drivers.

I have the same problem. Only on the sandbags and walls for some reason

. Oh, and I'm on an x800GTO

Uhm.. You guys wont probably believe me when I say I had this sorts of problems, and fixed then by running Driver Cleaner and cleaned my sound drivers... Now all my games run perfectly fine (a little bit high temperatures tho, nothing to worry about.). Now I can play Armed assault and cease to have stutter problems with STALKER and the best of all, the mirror sandbags vanished in BF2/PR. I use Sapphire Radeon x1950PRO and Creative Audigy 2.

WarCat drivers are superb for ATI graphics cards: the best & most stable I've used.
