Minimap Fade

To reduce the clutter on the screen how about

If you do not move (W,A,S,D) for 5 seconds your minimap begins to fade out.
If you do not shoot or change weapons/firing modes for 5 seconds your ammo counter (The 3,5 one) fade out.

It would help reduce the on-screen clutter.

Also :P What about instead of having ironsights 'toggle' why not make it so you have to hold down the right mouse button? IRL you can just move it once and its there ;) You have to hold it :D Of course, this may only work with 3D ironsights/the delay (Like the ones on the SAW)

These ideas are based off of COD2 :P

Thoughts?

I dunno about the map fade...if everyone esle can see minimap...then I want to, so I can keep track of friendly's running in front of my sniper rifle :) I love the "hold button" to shoot thing, thats a great idea. I think it'd give the weapons a little bit more "feel" to them.

COD 1 > COD 2

They will only be able to see it while running ;)

Good ideas, maybe also whilst using Iron Sights it Drains the Stamina as haveing to hold the weapon up Escpiecally if its the M249 but if you are Prone and your Weapon has a Bi-pod or Crouched the Stamina Drain should be Reduced, they say when Stamina is gone your Accuracy suffers

You guys have to remember that the devs are working the the BF2 engine, which means you can't just make anything happen.

I think the sight delay should be implimented on all weapons and not just the HMG's....

The hold for iron sights was awesome in COD2.

I'd like crouch toggle, and the ironsight toggle left in... Or perhaps do it the way GRAW did it - if you tapped the key, the sights would come up and stay, but if you held it, they would only stay for the duration that you held the key. Of course, that's probably five kinds of impossible.

Re fading of minimap and ammo counter. I already find it annoying that the ammo counter doesn't stay up when you have sights up. In real life, soldiers are trained enough to be able to know what firemode they just selected without looking - something you can't do in PR. Besides that, in real life you don't have to put your weapon away, or cycle to firemodes to determine what firemode the weapon was originally in. Also, you usually want to be standing still when firing. And when you fire, you want to have your minimap there, so you can tell if friendlies are around (and you want the terrain there too, so if you see a person next to a house, you can find that house on the map and check around for friendlies).

That last part isnt very realistic ;) Make it so your minimap fades in when you fire your rifle then :D

On screen clutter? The minimap takes up about 5% of your screen. If you can't deal with that, you're claustrophobic or something. Plus, as stated before, you normally fire when standing/crouching/proning still and need the map then to assist you distinguish friend from foe.
I don't think the effort is worth the 'benefits'.

Its a solution to removing the minimap completely (Which I want :D )

I second that. Another possible option would be to get rid of the frame and aerial viewmap of the minimap. Also the ability to press "N" to zoom in or out of the minimap could be disabled. So it looks something like this:

This way you can still see where your objectives and teammates are, but you wont have such detailed view of everything as if you were given your own personal satellite. But pilots and crewmen’s in vehicles should still have the detailed minimap, since most modern military vehicles have GPS systems.

One problem about taking away the fram (HUD) and making the map completely transparent is that you cant use the 'M' map, wich I tend to use more because you can look t it and shoot the same time.
But I still play liek that anyways, just adds to the challenge :)

I don't mean they do it the same way I did it(the way I did it above is just an example of how it could look). I'm saying the Devs can somehow figure out a way around this, so that the minimap looks like the picture above, but it won’t affect the appearance of the full size map.
