Interesting Reality insights from a book (firsthand account)

I'm currently reading the book "We Were One: Shoulder-to-Shoulder with the Marines Who Took Fallujah" and there are some really good insights shared from the Author who was a historian embedded into Lima Company's 1st Platoon as they assaulted the city of Fallujah.

It's a very interesting book, and it shows that much of the fighting in Iraq is house to house, with the Marines clearing one house after another while the insurgents hardly ever move out for a frontal attack, but usually lay wait in ambush inside the fortified houses (Would be great to see a map designed for this type of fighting).

One of the things that I was not aware of was how drugged up most of the insurgents were, and how this greatly affected their ability to survive even when shot multiple times. There were several instances were insurgents were shot 10-20 times and they just kept going on fighting as if they weren't even hit! One particular insurgent had to be shot 30 times with M16 fire before he would die.

As the Marines went along clearing house after house, they would uncover large stashes of Adrenaline and Cocaine mixed in with the weaons caches. The insurgents were so wired that they were like zombies, and despite their lack of body armor, they could take bullet after bullet and yet fight on relentlessly.

There was one instance where the Marines fired a rocket into an insurgent bunker and the entire house collasped under the impact and the site was scorched with temps up to 1500 degrees F, and they were sure nothing could have survived the explosion, but yet 3 insurgents remained alive under the rubble and grasped out for their weapons and began firing again, much to the amazement of the Marines.

So while reading this book, I thought that perhaps the insurgents in PR should have body armor to represent their ability to take bullets as a result of their drugged up state. It seems that it would make it more realistic.

If anyone is interested in the book, you can find it on Amazon ;)

I would prefer that the blurry vision when heavily wounded is removed for the Insurgents, but I doubt that we will see that.

Yeah, I think after reading this book, the insurgents should have some type of advantage in their resilience to wounds, or atleast have equal body armor to represent that resilience.

Yeah, I heard about this on Shootout! on the History Channel, it was about the taking of Fallujah. It talked about how the insurgents were using liquid adrenaline and other drugs and how soldiers witnessed shooting them and running off. Maybe the civilian class can use a syringe and inject the insurgents with drugs to make them stronger. Eve of Destruction created a syringe for reviving others in that mod, maybe the PR devs can ask them if they can use it?

^^^Agree

Sounds like, you want super insurgents, who are drugged up and dont give a damn thing, if they just got shot thru their asses...

The description of them in Fallujah does sound a bit scary, though...

I'm just sharing what I learned from the book, which is non-fiction and not a video game :)

Another good book is Generation Kill, which follows the Marines of 1st Force Recon on their way to Baghdad during the 2nd Iraq War :)

Generation Kill was an awesome book, but it was really scary at how inept some of the marines leadership was...

Problem is, you can't simulate not thinking clearly. Insurgents on 20 different drugs are surely not going to be able to think as clearly as a Marine who has been trained in combat operations and tactics. If you give players enhancements due to drugs, they're still going to play as tactically as they did before.

True, but you know how the truck plays that music as it drives around.... Howabout if a drugged up Inurgent had about 400Hp, but also shouted continously at the top of his voice, so you knew he was coming.....

Apparently not, seems that most of them are off their hairy tits.

Yeah it's a bit strange to hear that. No drink but absolutely any other drugs fine! :-P .

Interesting you should mention hairy tits, just made me wonder, why exactly are Middle Eastern men so hairy? Surely that doesn't make any sense...

The insurgents should carry drugs around, a needle f.ex. (what are those from EoD called? Used to revive?) instead of a field dressing :p

Opium, yeah you'd have clouded judgement...Coke and Epinepherin (Adrenaline...sorry I'm not so good with spelling) you'd have extremely clear judgement, albeit extremeyl brazen judgement. If you're hopped on Coke, you might think very clearly and be extremely energized but at the same time you're gonna be extremely bold...ie: getting hopped up and attacking Americans...then getting 2 in your noodle cause you disregarded the whole "taking cover" part.
