Spiky textures glitch

Hey,

After I start up P.R. and start playing for about 30 min or so, the textures on virtually everything begin to go freakin nuts, like spike everywhere, and the ground goes everywhere and it goes crazy. Well I tried a reinstall, and it still didnt do anything. I tried to play just BF2, but the glitch carried over to the base game too. I reinstalled twice and still didnt go away, even after I went int othe BF2 root folder and killed everything in there.

So now I try to play any FPS and the textures go spiky on me. Basically it gets so bad i cant see where im going because my field of vision becomes a mass of grey and green as textures from my gun, buildings, and ground, all spike out into my field of vision.

Also, on the ground, little multi-colored dots appear in linear patterns.

help PLEASE. the only reasonable thing i can think of to do now is to go download new drivers for my graphics card

system specs are:

Alienware 5550i
2.0Ghz dual core processor
1.25 GB DDR2 RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 7600 Go

Thats the basics, if you want specifics let me know. with these i can run BF2 normal on high everything and 2x AA w/ fps around 50-60 consistently.

So please HELP! Thanks,

-@

EDIT: let me know if u want a screenie of the problem.

Anything that starts after a while is almost certainly the graphics card overheating. I'd normally suggest trying with the side off your case, but it sounds like a laptop? In which case, prop it up off the desk with something, and see if that improves it. Assuming it is overheating (and you can check for sure by getting a utility that will tell you the GPU temperature), since it's a laptop designed for gaming I'd contact alienware about it.

I've already got a lap-cool 4 or something, which is essentially a dual fan platform to put the laptop on to keep it cool. Besides, this issue only started after I installed P.R., so I'm wondering if somehow a DLL got corrupted or something.

EDIT: heres some shots i took. note this is not BF2, but the glitches are exactly identical to those i encountered in BF2. does anyone have any clue how to fix this?

Obviously some image quality was lost in the game->picture process, but the spikes and dots are clearly visible.

As you can see here, the textures spike out from different areas and ultimatly block my view.

These are the dots i described earlier. they appear in linear patterns (as shown) and appear in all shapes and sizes across the land-scape.

Does everything else function normally while you’re not playing games (videos, DVD film, 3D Max, etc)? or is it only games which you get these graphical glitches? Now, after you enter a specific game and these graphical glitches occur, what happens when you exit the game? does it affect how other applications work or how Windows looks? Any Windows errors?
The Alienware 5550i is well known for its heat issue and shutting down problem. I remember reading that some of the problems were fixed with a new BIOS update Alienware released, but other than that your laptop seems to be overheating.

everything else functions normally, its just when im playing FPS's. It works fine even when i play RTS's. I'm worried that somehow something on my card has been burned out, which would require me to get a new card. I got a cooling platform after it shut down during a LAN party, but i just turn on the computer and play the game, and it starts spiking out.

ALSO: i just did an Alienrespawn (OS reinstall in 8 min flat). my HD and everything reverted back to its factory setting and im still getting this problem.

You should be able to find out your GPU temperature.

Download ATI Tool (NOT tray tools).
