Congratulations, you have been recommended for a promotion!
*insert huge insignia in the upper right part of the screen*
Congratulations, you received the "Breathed for the first time" award!
*insert huge badge in the upper right part of the screen*
Congratulations, you received the "who gives a ****" award!
*insert huge badge in the upper right part of the screen*

Rinse and repeat the next time you join the server.

I don't give a **** about points, but I run ABR just so I don't get that distracting ****.

No need for ABR Client...edit your host file instead.

select 'Run' and then add..

C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

open text editor and add
212.77.171.100 bf2web.gamespy.com
save.

Done.

Is that true?

Yes.
But the client works like Xfire, you can see and join servers through it.

Interesting. Normally when you ping bf2web.gamespy.com it responds from a different IP.

By adding that IP to the hosts, will it affect the functionality of vanilla BF2 (or anything else relying on Gamespy) ?

I guess that's exactly how ABR works. The client (ie, the game) contacts bf2web.gamespy.com and talks with it about stats. By overriding the domain ip assignment, you can send these requests elsewhere. I suppose the ABR guys managed to reverse-engineer the stats protocol, and they are merely serving stats the same way the official server serves stats. That's why you can review your ABR stats via BFHQ tab in the game.

Yeah, I dislike the ABR, and I usually try to stay on servers without.

I'm not a stat whore, but I do like to see how I am doing. BF2 introduced stats, and now they aren't going away. ABR is great b/c it gives those who like vanilla for the stats no reason not to try PR. I wish there were more info on ABR, doesn't seem that it is still being all that much supported, but I could be wrong.
