Mapping suggestions..

1. One thing that bothers me about BF2 is that they try to squeeze too many things onto a single map. It makes strategically positioning armor very difficult because there simply aren't enough places to do it. Also, it forces large maps to seem very small.
One thing I loved about BF1942 and DC is that the maps weren't too cumbersome.
73 Easting was great for tank battles. Organized squads could actually practice tank formations.
It would be great to see jungle maps actually look like a jungle. If that means lowering the quality of terrain for jungles slightly, then I think it's an acceptable trade.
BF2 mappers were really tricky. They made huge maps, but a good 30% of those maps were inaccessible mountains/water that just makes a large chunk of the map completely useless.
All I'm saying is.. if it's desert.. it's desert. If it's jungle, it's gotta be jungle. Please, none of that stick a power plant, crane, warehouse, huge mountain, large water mass in one map so that all vehicles can be used type stuff
2. If you choose to have terrain with mountains, is it possible to make them.. well.. large mountains? I'd love to see choppers actually have the ability to utilize terrain masking.
3. "Invasion" maps were always a favorite of mine. It's great to storm a beach, or rough it up a large hill to take a high point. It makes the combat much more intense. I guess it mainly depends on the player, since most players play the game for score -- not for the fun. I recall a map in BF1942 where you had to storm a mountain. There was only 1 way up and the assaulters usually got pummeled to the ground. 1 out of every 6, or so, times... they we would succeed. It was a great feeling.
The "Invasion" maps were also great because they concentrated the forces very well. Planes were bombing targets of actual significance, defenders were actually defending something.
Another few maps I recall is the DDay map from BF1942. Every map started with a load of Higgins Boats, full of troops, storming the beach. It felt like a battle. Another one is Lost Village from DC. The map started with fully loaded blackhawks in little birds assaulting the city... again.. it felt like you were really in the battle with your team (as opposed to running around by yourself, or with a few people at most, capping flags and moving on).
With the way the BF2 maps are currently made, even 64 player servers feel like 24 player.

Anyhoo, I guess that's all I can think of for now.
Some of my favorite maps were from Desert Combat. They were great. They focused on the heat of the battle more than the personal enjoyment of every possible player.
