Mapping suggestions..

1. One thing that bothers me about BF2 is that they try to squeeze too many things onto a single map. It makes strategically positioning armor very difficult because there simply aren't enough places to do it. Also, it forces large maps to seem very small.

One thing I loved about BF1942 and DC is that the maps weren't too cumbersome.

73 Easting was great for tank battles. Organized squads could actually practice tank formations.

It would be great to see jungle maps actually look like a jungle. If that means lowering the quality of terrain for jungles slightly, then I think it's an acceptable trade.

BF2 mappers were really tricky. They made huge maps, but a good 30% of those maps were inaccessible mountains/water that just makes a large chunk of the map completely useless.

All I'm saying is.. if it's desert.. it's desert. If it's jungle, it's gotta be jungle. Please, none of that stick a power plant, crane, warehouse, huge mountain, large water mass in one map so that all vehicles can be used type stuff :P

2. If you choose to have terrain with mountains, is it possible to make them.. well.. large mountains? I'd love to see choppers actually have the ability to utilize terrain masking.

3. "Invasion" maps were always a favorite of mine. It's great to storm a beach, or rough it up a large hill to take a high point. It makes the combat much more intense. I guess it mainly depends on the player, since most players play the game for score -- not for the fun. I recall a map in BF1942 where you had to storm a mountain. There was only 1 way up and the assaulters usually got pummeled to the ground. 1 out of every 6, or so, times... they we would succeed. It was a great feeling.

The "Invasion" maps were also great because they concentrated the forces very well. Planes were bombing targets of actual significance, defenders were actually defending something.

Another few maps I recall is the DDay map from BF1942. Every map started with a load of Higgins Boats, full of troops, storming the beach. It felt like a battle. Another one is Lost Village from DC. The map started with fully loaded blackhawks in little birds assaulting the city... again.. it felt like you were really in the battle with your team (as opposed to running around by yourself, or with a few people at most, capping flags and moving on).

With the way the BF2 maps are currently made, even 64 player servers feel like 24 player.

----------------

Anyhoo, I guess that's all I can think of for now.

Some of my favorite maps were from Desert Combat. They were great. They focused on the heat of the battle more than the personal enjoyment of every possible player.

These are artists renders of the first map in a series I would like to make, the story is based around Chinese Vs. Coalition forces. The maps will take in several different terrains as the scenario will take place in and around Korea / India / Pakistan / Afghanistan / Vietnam. It is based on the premiss that China is lending aid to certain Terrorist cells and supporting several millitary and social changes in south east Asia.

This is the Basic Height map with roads indicated.

These are the score assignments for each base / 60 pts required for a bleed.

Same Map different details, this shows the placement of static weaponry.

This is obviously the vehicle assignments.

Basically I would like feed back, the idea of the map is to have a number of different assault techniques required to take different bases and to make each base strategically important beyond it's bleed value. As it is one team could control 4 bases ( thereby holding the majority ) and still have a bleed against them. One of the big problems with BF2 in my opinion, was that it took the urgency out of the game and put too much importance on artillery and Airforce, it stopped being about holding strategic and tacticaly advantageous positions and bacame very death match. Anyway enough of the rant. I would like feed back on the proposal concerning placements height adjustments and vehicle load outs, think Omaha beach with a healthy dose of the assault of the Philipines and a dash of Saigon.
These images will also help, when this n00b mapper starts asking questions and trying to describe the picture in his head.

I should mention that this is designed to be played on the largest map size possible allowing for assaults to be made similar to BF42 Omaha beach on the most northern flags, cover for boats is high once you enter the middle regions because the sides should be high enough as to inhibit armored units firing down. The general terrain is dense jungle and treacherous paths limiting armors effectiveness and putting an emphasis on squads moving and covering as they penetrate deeper into the jungles. The South West base is a beach landing opening up intoan elevated position which covers the beach and the bridge crossing further west.

This is the political Map

Again let me know your thoughts on the base placings, it is very posible my political and geographic sense is off. Tell me where the best places are for allied and Axis forces, bearing in mind that this first installment is more of a border skirmish with Chinese and Axis forces, The Art of War series is the prelude to a more serious situation.

There is only one major draw back to my plan, I'm shit at mapping. Any and all assistance concerning the new mapping tools would be appreciated. I could just about get by on the old map generator for BF:V but this new bit of kit is utter nonsense.
