Should I even download v0.5 or should I just get v0.6? I really don't know... so any help is useful. Cheers!

Get 0.5, so it won't be a full force "shock" with 0.6.
Even experienced players were confused when they first played 0.6, so I suggest you get 0.5 for now and learn the basic stuff, then get 0.6 when the final version comes out.
