Check the 0.6 beta forums, you find it there... http://realitymod.com/forum/t21063-pr-v ... kspan.html
Wow, hard to find!
and use the search...!

I have a hunch that it was not announced on the main page (or at all really) because the PR Devs only wanted their solid fanbase to be testing it. Releasing it in a little known section of the forums where only long time forum goes would find it guaranteed this.

...hard to find part of the forums? I just used "new posts" and noticed a lot of beta .6 related posts :p

The point is, if you plaster the .6 beta all over the web, random people are going to download it, see a bug, and say something like "ZOMG THIS GAYM SUCKZ LARGE DONKEY PENSISES UNINSTALL NOW." While in my opinion, you don't really need to care about such people, I can see why the PR team chose to do what they did. If you post the beta on the forum, people have to show some interest to find it, and if they take the time to actively seek it out, they're usually more serious and understand that it's a beta.

I mean, think open source software. Just because there's beta versions and nightly builds doesn't mean that Firefox's website has links to anything but the latest stable release on the main page. For people interested in development, these things are relatively easy to find, though.

Sadly though, it was announced on the Planet Battlefield main page...

^^^ like some people said above, non pr fans will think its the actual next release, and when they download it and its, well more buggy than it should be, than they no likey mod.

and in that case we will get rid of all the noobs.
If they can't realize it's a beta even though it says "open beta" in both the installer and the shortcut, then I guess they will not be able to realize other obvious stuff, like the player guide.
And if they are here for the teamwork they will continue playing even if there are a few graphical bugs.

Yep, PR is so popular that every "z0mg, Im4 t3h L33tz0rz BF2 pwn3r" drools over it, then they all start whining and TK, cos they got nothing better to since their IQ cant handle Project Reality learning curve....not to mention the simplest things, like "this is an open BETA"..

I think the smacktards on the open beta should be considered part of the testing program.

As Wasteland Soldier pointed out in .5, part of the game is Proper Smacktard Management.
This only become more important when you need teams of Eng to support the commander.

We need to grow more adept managing and recruiting for squads and actually leading ( I don't lead mostly ..i suggest and support ) squads and taking the time to text chat to other squads to coordinate actions.

The pace is supposed to be slower but I see too often the old pace is still being used and that's what gets us spread out and vulnerable.

The morons will always be in a public server so creating strategeries to deal with them is part of the game and should have some small focus in the community.
