Realism: Injuries, healing and moving inside vehicles

Hi guys,

Been playing PR since 0.5 launch and I never played BF Vanilla or any other FPS since... Awesome job ! Now here comes the suggestion part (sorry if it has been already said, I did not read the 174 previous pages of the topic ;-)

Realism:
- More realistic injuries: arm/hand injury = reduced accuracy or even cannot use weapon, leg/foot injury = you cannot walk (just crawl) until healed.
- Field dressing: should be used by click and hold button (like medikit in 0.6). Dropping them on the floor is too easy and unrealistic: you heal yourself while doing something else (most commonly reloading or switching weapon)
- Moving between driver seat and gunner seat inside tank & APC should take longer for reality and teamwork incentive sake (lone tank crewman would be a lot more uncommon)

I got a lot of more suggestions, that will follow later...

Pretty sure that the BF2 engine does not allow this... but please correct me if i'm wrong mods.

As for the other ones, for the most part they have been suggested before

1. Not possible

2. That's a pretty good idea, except from the injured person's perspective.

3. There is already a delay when you jump in the gunners position, although not on the drivers postion.

As with most things, its HARDCODED and cannot be done with the BF2 engine.

There was a game that came out a few years ago with realistic injuries. I remember the media was all over it like stink on s###, about how bad it was for our youth to be playing such a game. What ever.

Anyway, does anyone remember what the game was and if it was any good?

I like the last suggestion, although it's been suggested a bunch of times. Try the search feature next time. I really think there should be a lengthy delay in switching positions, or at least a lengthy delay between when you can move in the driver's seat and when you can gun in the gunner's seat.

I'm sick of running up to armor being run by one person who sees me but can't hit me, so he hops in the driver's seat and moves far enough away to hop back in the gunner's seat and hit me

The field dressing isn't intended only for yourself. If a teammate needs assistance, you can give him your field dressing, by tossing it at him. If you were to be able to hold down the mouse button to heal, it would either have to be healing yourself only, or the devs would have a really hard time restricting the healing to one person only.

I actually think that is a good idea.

When i throw my dressing on the ground and i am on a hill...Dressing is away.

Dressing is away too, when it falls through the floor of a house (like ammo too, its an old bug).

i tried to find something(dont worry with right spelling)
in a few ways to see if it been suggested it finds me things that have a "little" to do with it than i i suggested it and ppl told me "it was suggested before use the search feature"

For the field dressing it would be good if left click healed your self and right click tosses it to the ground for teammate to pick up

Soldier of Fortune more than likely
- Moving between driver seat and gunner seat inside tank & APC should take longer for reality and teamwork incentive sake (lone tank crewman would be a lot more uncommon)
this can and should be done asap.
Should be a much longer delay for switching into crewman seats. The flipside of that is that the driver should have more responsibility. 0.6 is heading in the right direction replacing the driver with a commander, with access to the 50 cal. The IFVs will hopefully eventually go in the same direction

1) Ok, too bad for more realistic injuries, if it's BF2 code, we cannot fight it ;-)

2) I like Tubla suggestion for field dressing: left click for auto heal and right click to heal a teamate.

3) Will slower seat change be implemented in 0.6 ? This could be not only for tanks or APC but for humvee as well.

Oh yeah, first self heal yourself with a limited aid dressing, then throw it to your teammate to heal himself with an empty bag....

I imagine it would be easy to make it so clicking 'fired' it and used up the 'ammo' in the bag, so it could be either used or thrown down.

Many game's have realistic damges (or at least different body part).

e.g Ghost Recon (Not GRAW! the ones that came out before you were born)
And many others I cant think of....I think STALKER has it too, but that was a long time ago.

But if you could heal yourself by clicking and heal others by throwing, what reason stays to be a medic?
A Medics life is hard enough (i know because i always play medic and usually im the only one on the server - in hard terms spoken).
You can't spot enemies (no binoculars) you don't have frag-grenades (yeah i got smoke, but find me a squad using its smokes), your field dressings are limited, you can't heal yourself ( i know: "watch down" - but that don't really works most of the time) you nearly can't heal other players in the middle of a firefight - they will always move around; throwig one of your unlimited rifleman-dressings is faster and more reliable.
And if you are shot down no one will heal you because there is no other medic around; and noone will take your medic kit to heal you because they know it "sucks".

Deus Ex had this wounding system where your abilities were "limited" due to specific injuries.

Because field-dressings don't give you much health and you can revive. Anyway, you can perform the same self-health function by throwing the dressing on the floor and standing on it, or leave it for another anyway, it would just make things easier and stop it evaporating/disolving in to the terrain like it does sometimes.

I would prefer not to have realistic damage to the body (i.e. limp/unable to walk after being hit in the leg etc) as for me it makes the game a little too realistic and less fun. PR IMO shouldn't be a simulator like ArmA, or Army Ops where you can't do things when you get hit in certain parts of the body. For me that's not fun, and bloody annoying. I've always liked realistic themed games like PR and FH over actual sims like ArmA and the like.

I do like the sound of your field dressing suggestion though, as IAJTHOMAS said it would stop that annoying bug where it just disappears into the ground occasionally. I also agree there should be slightly more delay when moving positions inside the vehicle, but I'm sure the devs will come to that eventually and rectify it :D

btw welcome to the forums apollo

I think this is a great suggestion. However, as a medic, I need to throw them on fallen team members to overcome the issue where guys can not be revived on a slope due to some clipping problem. I use most of my dressings this way and have requested that the medic be issued more to compensate. Especially now that I may need to use them on myself until I can get to safety. Perhaps right click field dressing to heal yourself, left to heal others. If there is no one there when you left click, it gets tossed on the ground.
