Ok, can someone post a link to a simplified tutorial on editable poly's, cos the ones I find, are confusing and the version probably doesn't match. Note, Im using the 3ds Max 7.

Or a quick explanation of, how to cut out something, because after I create a box and convert it to editable poly, I cant seem to figure out, how to cut something out, its so frustrating, that my head will blow up

Thanks...

You might want to have a look at this tutorial:

It's for gun modelling, but there's a bit of everything in it; good for starters.

For removing stuff, you can use booleans, but I wouldn't recommend them. They're a mess to clean up after.

Think Ive found it before, when I messed around...but not really sure...

Use chamfering (edges) or smoothing (polygons).

How? :hissyfit: :hissyfit: :hissyfit:

I always mess it up, used the Chamfer and only managed to smooth one edge, and even that wasnt in the way I wanted, other stuff turned my object to look like a pile of twisted ****

For smoothing:

We'll use my M733 as an example here. This is the handguard before smoothing:

Image

Here's how the smoothing's done: Select the editable poly you want to do the smoothing on. Now, in the MODIFY tab, click POLYGON.

Select the polygons you want to smooth out (typically a buttstock, handguard, etc.).

Then scroll down and click AUTO SMOOTH.
