Minimap Compromise

Since I have been hearing mixed feelings about the mini map in PR I think we should settle for a compromise. Maybe there should be no mini map in first person at all, but be able to see troops just like normal with the map in the spawn screen. There would still be a map to show forces just not one on your screen. Possibly? Also, maybe the kit selection could be turned transparent so when a player presses the map button they only see the map. They would have a different button for kit selection (dunno if this is possible but would be great if it is)

Join a game, press M.
Then, go to Options and look at the first screen.

Yeah, there's already a 'map' that's separate from the spawn selection map.

Personally I'd like to keep the map and get rid of the mini-map. If you want to look at something, it shouldn't be there in the corner to look at while you're shooting at someone or doing something-- it should take at least SOME time/effort to do it.

Uuuh I think you people got it all wrong, there's never been a discussion about removing the "M" map or Caps lock map, just the MINIMAP...

I will only agree to a mini map removal or anything of the sort if i get the right or any answer for that matter, to the following question:

IS it possible to increase the distance at whcih weapons and equipement on infantry draw?

I think the devs have lost sight of what this mod is called.

I'm with Topcat.
I have a lower end rig and at a distance I can't tell the difference because the gear doesn't show up.
I just don't shoot unless the minimap shows it empty of blue dots and without the minimap I would die more often.
But since I don't think the Dev's have lost sight of anything I would play even with no maps at all.

I see where your coming from Drunk and I understand the downside of not having a minimap, just having alot of screen area is very nice.

Go to Options, and set all of the Transparency settings on the bottom to 100%. Viola, your minimap is gone.

NO! Its already friggen hard to stay within the map borders and to navigate on Kashan. Without the minimap its going to be im-freakin-possible.

-I think I suggested a while ago that it could be locked at the closest zoom, it simulates the senses that would be working in real life.

So essentially you want it to be useless. The closest zoom is useless, especially with encounters now being over long ranges.

If you need to check a target, press M.

Simple as that. Won't take but 1 second.

-It's less useless than if it isn't there... You have the M key and the CAPS LOCK key for longer range. Pretty much the only thing I use the minimap for is squad cohesion and CQB, if the target is far off in the distance I have some time to press a button.

if you remove the mini map, there'll be an increase in accidental team kills and you'll get more and more frustrated as every second death is caused by a friendly. You can't replicate 'reality' perfectly on a computer screen (and especially with battlefield 2 engine) - you have no periphial vision and things aren't as clear (ie. resolution) as it would be in Real Life. You can't see team mates make hand signals and you have to press a friggen button every time you want to talk. The minimap is there to make up for these redundancies...so in some ways it makes it more 'realistic' by adding some elements that you would miss. People shouldn't take things so literally ("Dur! The minimap is a magical map I can see! Dur! Defibbing someone brings someone back to life!") but use them as a graphical representation based on the engine's technology of what really would happen on the field (ie. defibbing represents you dragging someone behind cover and tending them to the best of your abilities).

This argument is so overused. Pressing 'M' is soo hard. Actually, pressing 'M' simulates the delay between your teammate pointing to something and you figuring out exactly where he is pointing.
