Map Markers

Have you ever wanted to signal you need an evacuation from
a hot zone? Perhaps you have wanted to signal to a nearby
plane that you might need a little help taking down a tank
or perhaps a strafing run to clear out a threat? Maybe you
just wanted to tell that idiot flying the helicopter where
you want to land?
I suggest additional markers!
Guidelines
- Are only placed by Squad Leaders.
- Shown to everyone on team.
- Last for about a minute.
- System for placing is similar to the spotting / squad commands,
or the use of SOFLAMs and the Squad Leader green smoke grenade.
Possible Designs
- Air Support Marker -

- Extraction Marker -

- Landing Zone -

i can see people arguing that the commander is there for this stuff
but regardless, i really like the idea!
would be a shame if its hardcoded. maybe a work around would be SLs taking very temporary commander status, so they can issue 'movement markers' to other specific squads?
As always, I'm not a coder, just thinking logically

pickup marker we have been planning since .4 I think, but aint implermented yet.
Air Support Marker aint excatly going to happen as you suggested, we want to get the SOFLAM working fully and that may include a icon on the map for genral postion if / once its working, but we will have to see, if we cant get it working then we will go with only just a makrer and maybe some other stuff.
MEDEVAC would be pretty pointless at this stage, and probaly in the future depending on how things go.
PS. like your pickup icon, we may if we will use it

I think the medvacc is more for a black hawk with a medic on board or just a black hawk that takes people to a medic

The MEDEVAC icon is just there if you guys (the Dev Team)
decide on adding in that particular gameplay element.
Of course, even without that element, it can still be used to
draw medical attention to a certain area.
I appreciate the feedback so far, guys!

Nice idea I personally do think it gives more notice of whats needed. I know a lot of the time just the flashing dot on the map of what your saying on the radio is ignored and hard to understand it doesn't cut the cheese.

I like the idea, but I'm not sure that we could make it work from the spotted menu, unfortunately. I'd have to look into it.

EoD implements map markers for signal grenades. Perhaps the same thing could be done here, by spawning invisible objects on request.

Maybe add the transport request marker to the green signal grenade? So when you throw it the marker appears on the map.
EDIT: Damn, I fail at reading, even when the post was right above mine

The medic thing though ....unless they change the medic function to one of only stopping bleeding and not healing I can't see the reason.
As it stands when you call for a medic on the comm rose all the medics show on your map and you show on theirs, just like ammo or repair.

Another idea that may be very useful is showing other squads orders with markers on the map. Have the same design markers as the "attack" and "defend" markers in AASv2 right now but have the squads number on it and the color of tactic( orange=attack, purple=defend). That way squads dont have to go typing to each other about what they are doing.

Yeah, I just sort of put it there, hopeful of things to come.
Sadly, my dreams have been crushed.
But, what I'm really curious about now, is how far coding has
come (if at all) on the green smoke grenades as well as the
SOFLAM; However, if it is decidedly abandoned, perhaps
another method would be to have them as Commander
orders or to display them as if they were an asset.
By that, I mean Squad Leader 1 requests an extraction, and
then a bouncing blue marker shows up surrounded by yellow
circles on the commander screen. Then, once the Commander
authorizes it, it shows up on everyone's map much like
the artillery does when placed.
This could be done for the Air Support icon as well.

The Air Support Icon Could be Put in without the SOFLAM, this would help those in the Air (A-10's , Su-25 etc) to know which Target a Squad Leader or Commander wants you to Engage then its Guns and Rockets Free and RTB to base, i dont see why the SOFLAM has to be in before its Possible.

we could put it in without the SOFLAM but we do not want to yet.

Well, why not go ahead and put it in, and once the SOFLAM
is up and running you can transfer that part to the SOFLAM's
ability?
Also, updated the first post with a new marker that I think
would be semi-useful.

This probably came up in another thread but I think it's worth mentioning here:
What about that grenade in Black Hawk Down that the soldiers pinned down in a building used to call in a helicopter to wipe out a roof full of hostiles?
Do those exist? If they do, do they work like that?
Since I'm not that well documented in the field, I couldn't really tell what was Hollywood fiction and what wasn't but in case it isn't...
It might be a good addition to mark a spot for a helicopter to strafe at short range and that is out of sight, such as a the roof mentioned earlier in this post.
