Airborne options?

Post by Nanashi »

I'd really like to see a game other than AAO support us Airborne rangers. I don't know for sure if this is already in planning, or if the 'sdk' will even allow it. Id like to see either an aircraft that we can spawn in (like DC) that we can jump from, or better yet, an airborne spawn available when specific flags have been taken to allow us to spawn in the sky and come down on our enemies from above. Would be cool if we could see the proper parachutes to go along with this, and possibly less control and longer decent times to limit people. That way it would be easier for the other team to defend and shoot people before they land. Best of all, a little more realism in the shoots too, so that players cant just deploy them 10 feet from the ground and be peachy.

Hell, if it wasn’t such a pain in the ***, I would suggest military topographical map to navigate by, and things of that mater, but I doubt most players will want to learn map reading just to play the game. I would also kindly ask that you brighten the skins on the far away player model LODs. In the current game, camo does nothing at all. Players appear almost as black figures at a distance, and the grass is only drawn within 50 feet or so, so when you think you have good cover, you have nothing at all.

Everything I have read so far looks sweet though, especially realistic bullet physics (hopefully this will lead to allot less snipers, but more accurate ones.) Its about time someone did something like this, and it looks like you guys are serious about it. I'm especially glad you have some military personnel in your ranks so everything is 'high speed' and 'squared away' :)

This is something I was thinking about as well.

A spawn point in the sky was accomplished in BF1942 and was done very successfully. It would be great to see something like this in BF2 for airborne operations.

In a almost perfect world, they could have an airborne-only operation. This is how it would work:

- In the beginning of the map, the airborne side only gets air spawns. They are located at different parts of the map (not to distant from one another).

- Each air spawn is close to, or on top of, an enemy spawn.

- As soon as a 2 ground spawns are taken, air spawns disappear.

As a matter of fact, this could be one of those things that differenciate the sides.

One of the perks of being US is that you have airborne spawns on nearly all of the maps (this would signify better technology).

One of the perks of being, say MEC, is that you can plant roadside bombs that looks like normal stationary objects (fire hydrants, curbs, etc).

etc etc etc :P

id love to see stuff like that

and if i recall the Devs had considered making maps that were unit specific i would love to see maps made for 82nd AB, British Paras or 75th Rangers that were Airborne maps, you can have static spawn airborne spawn points or youd get picked off to easily in a POE map they had a rotating arial spawn which was cool or do it like solo said from the FH map

Finaly, someone raised the issue of airborne soldiers, so I can finaly put the question forward... Is the British Parachute Regiment going to be included in the mod? If currently not, could you please, please (please) consider bringing them into it?
Don't know if you're modeling the LSW (Light Support Weapon) yet or not, just a note, the paras have stopped using it as their light machine gun and are now using the Minimi (you probably knew that, but I've no idea if the other regiments have changed yet).

And well, you can't REALLY have airborne soldiers these days without a Chinook!

Anyway I've pestered enough... For now...

Yeah!! airborn is real cool and it would make a great idea if the mec or china tok all spawn points from attacking force(often america and GB) and it sould be like that to for china and mec ..!

Hay cool, glad to see so much support. Yeah, I can't wait for my first jump. I hope by the time Im out of airborne school that I'll be able to jump on BF2 also :)

I keep hering from everyone that Jump school is the funest school there is, and that its so relaxed after BCT and AIT.

Eather way would be good. I prefer the spawn points becouse alothugh actualy having planes is the coolest, people tend to abuse it and we all know players would just steal the plane before anyone spawned, and crash it into a tank or sniper or somthing darn it. I wish the game could monitor for lamers and punish them automaticly.

One way that may work is to not make a spawn at the arborne plane spawn, but only have the spawns inside the planes, so you know if the plane is gone or not. Would suck to spawn there and have no plane. Then again, would be cool watching the plane land, loading up, and then going off to drop. If only the planes could be AI controlled ^_^

i think its a safe bet the marines wont be taken out, i think the only things PR aims to remove are the parts that are unrealistic... and once thats done the services/weapons/vehicles that are used IRL will fall into place.
