I made a thread about this in the BF2142 forums a while ago (well, one similar to this).

I've always loved to play BF2142 and, more importantly, PR with my own background music using a custom iTunes playlist that includes battle themes from quite a few different other games and tunes by amatuer artists. Some of the less techno-ish tunes from the Unreal Tournament series go great with PR, for example. I turn off the ingame music and play this in the background.

Playing this music makes the battle feel so much more cinematic, helps my focus, and generally makes me more enthusiastic. Does anyone do this? If so, are there any tracks you particularly recommend.

I load the map with music, but in game I'm too busy communicating with my squad over VoIP.

I pick out the most ridiculous songs like My Heart Will Go On from Titanic, You're So Vain, One Tin Soldier, and then some Comand and Conquer and Asian Kung Fu Generation to top it ioff. Trust me, nothing is funnier than killing to My Heart Will Go On and You're So Vain... lol

I go for hardcore realism in this aspect. Ie, no playing of music while out on a mission

They are 99% of the bands I listen to though.

I'm serious, try it. Full on firefights to "You're So Vain" by Carly Simon will change the way you look at PR. What's best is when a squad mate dies right when the music reaches the top of a crecendo... then things get emotional...

I think I'll give it a shot, plus it'll give me something to do when I undoubtably die haha

I don't have music on when I play online, but I like to whack on the Black Hawk Down soundtrack when I play Basrah on SP
