Radar Helo?

Like that helo from Fire Birds that the girl flew, with the radar thing on the top. Make the little UAV yellow radar thing from that helo.
The Model is already in the work with rockets on the sides, why not add this?

Kiowa? If it were to be in the game, it'd be nice if it didn't have a radar, but instead, just some powerful optics (like the attack helis in game right now). That way, you could actually have a two man crew doing recon properly. Vanilla style UAV is a no-no...

That is a great idea !
The second one.
Put the tank commanders view coming from that pod on top of the helo.
Hide behind hills and spot targets for your Cobra..Hind whatever.
And then if they get the laser spotting working, do the same for bombers.
But in the short run it would seem a possibility to get the tank commanders view on top of a lil bird gunship.

I like it.
I had the exact idea a month ago with scout chopper mounted optics but it didnt pass my mind to actualy post it up.
I think it was when i saw that camera-looking thing on the nose of the merlin. What does that thing do IRL anyway?

Yeah, the Vanilla Battlefield 2 style UAV "Radar" is officially rejected from Project Reality, if you ever see it in game, then the Dev's probably added it as an Easter Egg joke and you will only see those in Open Betas. But, after the M82 fiasco, they probably won't do anything like that again since it really stirs up the hive.
But, the top mounted view system is genius. That would totally work for a Recon Helicopter. But I don't know how hard it would be to use...
Currently, most helicopters in PR are very hard to fly even with, and even harder to get a good hover in a specific location. So, spotting from this bird would be mighty hard.
Maybe make it unrealistically easier to fly, not enough that you could fly and spot alone, but just enough the sweet spot for Hover is easier to find.

i dunno a small chopper with a small uav permenantly attached to it that would fly around spotting stuff is not that un realistic,
the chopper would have to hover in that vacinity to kepp the uav going which would make it a h-at and aa target so its just going to fly around and reveal soldiers for a few seconds tops before they are out of range again.
i think it could work quite well...

You're serious? This comes straight out of Vanilla Armoured Fury!
What ever happened to people spotting while in helo's? It's not that difficult.

Well, Attack helio crews think they'll have it destroyed long before anyone on their team has a chance to be effected by it.
And Transport helios are pretty hard to spot with IMO.

Why would anyone iin their right mind use an AH to perform recon?
LB is the closest thing we have in this mod and that's like riding a bike.

It's still semi hard sometimes with LB 'cos you can only spot in front. If it was possible to spot while holding ctrl and looking around it would be a lot better IMO. Though it's probably impossible to code it that way, but we can always hope for the best

When I responded you only said "Spot", you said nothing about Recon. And the Attack Helios have the most ideal system, they have rotational view point and armour. And how often do you see a Transport chopper near a fight? You might as well Hold up a flag with an arrow pointing down that says "PWN HERE" with four or fire guys hitching a ride on your back.

I'll handle this. The Merlin.

Who the fvck is talking about transport choppers!?!?
I'm talking about recon choppers.

That's because the only maps that have it either have only one AA kit to use against it or you can only see it when it is right above you.
Neither of those is it contested by other Combat Aircraft (The shoe box doesn't count.)
El_Vikingo wrote:I'm talking about recon choppers.
As of now there are none. The Little Bird and the equivalent are light attack choppers or Transports. And I'm talking about possible substitute until dedicated recon choppers are added.

I thought you were talking about real life... my bad. I'd never use my Merlin for recon on PR.

I would only condone the UAV if it could detect Subs only, but im affraid we dont have any in PR ATM. The ability to see through 6ft of lead should not be present in what is basicly and optical zoom(NVG or not).
The problem with the "Optics-on-the-move" could be easily solved in the way that No Chopper in PR is a single seater. The Co-pilot would have use of this optic zoom and would give him something else to do than look at your score board every time you go on a strafe, to confirm teh_Killz.
The slight problem with the Co-pilot deal would be that the DEVs would have to re-arrange the seating, as with the MEC and CH Scout chopper(Gazell+'Wasp') has exteria seating instead of logical interior(FFS EA, GTFO!!1!).
And ofcourse the US still use the LB, which there would be no point in adding to as its going to be replaced by teh_Kiowa and GB will get teh_Lynx.

This thread needs to go no further!! I think this guy hit it right on the head. Perfect idea and makes sense. I like it.

Juba, this has been suggested before. Please do a search.
This post is correct:

In BF2 Armored Fury the scout helicopters do function exactly as the UAV does. We would not like to implement them in this way, though.
By the way, the sphere above the main rotor is not a radar, it is a mast mounted surveillance and targeting sight used to observe and adjust fire for supporting arms (artillery and aircraft) and to designate targets for laser guided munitions, which the Kiowa can also carry in the form of Hellfire missiles.
