A real life sized map...possible?

I was looking through the MIddle East countries and came over the Bahrain island. In one of the threads, Eggman said, that it would be nice, if someone did a scale 8 map, which is about 68x68 Km (I think, gotta search :p ), but the problem would be at the edges of the map, unless its an island map sorrounded by water.

Image

There is a measure at the bottom of the map pic, looking at it, Im estimating, that the Bahrain island is about 15 Km wide and 40 Km long, which pretty much fits into a scale 8 map along with the surrounding smaller islands, plus, it can be done real life sized, not scaled down like Basrah for instance.

Whatcha think?

I just hope there's more of a chance for inf than on Kashan Desert :)

would love to see something like this :)

it wouldn't be at all real life scale .. the (theoretically) largest maps we can produce are 8km x 8km.

no where near possible in the BF2 engine. Even if it was possible to hack the terraindata.raw file and get it upto 40kms, we would be talking a scale 40 map here, probaly more realsitic would be a scale 64 map as 64 is the closest power of 2, and then you are going to be talking about every grid square being 64x64 meters each. It would look like ****, it would play like ****, and ye, it would be **** :p

trying to explain a little more what I mean by grid squares is that every grid squar on the terrain had a height to it, and you basically "mold" the grids into the shape of terrain you like. Just to get an idea here is a pic of muttrah from the editor in grid mode: http://www.rhinorage.co.uk/cutenews/dat ... es/3/1.jpg
each of thous grids are the default BF2 size, 2m x 2m. Now you can razie each grid etc to mold the shape you want, now just think with each grid being 64x64, you get the idea :p

not going to work on the BF2 engine, sorry.

Not saying your idea is ****, but ehhh, it just aint possible :p

PS. Muttrah City v2 is too real life scale.

Make small models :p Like everything 4 times smaller. And the Maps 4 times bigger

DC for BF 1942 did that. Shrunk the models to make the maps bigger... As I remember it was a compromise that worked out fairly well.
Though the scale was a bit off... Soldiermodels were as tall as the M1 tank... IIRC I might add...

Uh oh, did search for Eggmans statement on scale 8 maps, but threads get lost so fast on these forums :/...

How about half the size or half the map?
We could have, so the USMC/GB attacks MEC positions on northern part of the map, where the capitol city is and the southern part is not included, just some hills and dunes outside the map boundaries...

just to give you an idea on the size we are talking here.

Image

The red inner square represents 2km x 2km, Al Basrah and most other map size.

the blue square represents a 4km x 4km map size, the largest size we can do at the moment, Kashan Desert size.

the green square represents the theoretically possible 8km x 8km map size.

so if we did get 8km x 8km to work, with a struggle then we would only be talking that small island by the side, nothing like what you are thinking :p

I digress to this thread.

Not only you can stick it to EA, you can... become EA.

Thats the last thing I want right now. Hell I would like to get paied for doing what im doing but I would hate to become a company that dose not care at all about the players and all they want from them is £££.

I meant to become an actual payed team, not some bloated corporation that couldn't give less of a damn about its customers.

Well, looking at the Bahrain map, current possible thing to map from there is the border station island :p

well since bahrain is too big, how about hawaii?
Just one of the islands or more if you can fit them into the map. (realistic size islands that is)
And we could have it so that the chinese are attacking and the US is defending, since now there isn't any maps where the US would be the one defending.

Server population will have to drastically increase for anything remotely like this.
