Medic & Revive

I did search before posting this but didn't find anything the same.

I'm not sure if it's even possible, but I'll make the suggestion anyway. As I often play as a medic you will regularly have fallen team mates just a little out in the open and normally trying to revive them puts you straight in the sniper/gunman's scope.

Would it be possible to grab team mates and drag them to safety to revive them? It would of course still give you a disadvantage since you'd be slow and out in the open, but I think it would encourage teamplay too.

You could have a support guy provide covering fire while a medic grabs the fallen.

You could enable all classes to be capable of doing so, not just medic (dragging, not reviving :) )

what do you think? is it possible? worth it?

-As a seasoned(And extremely handsome) medic here's what you do; run like hell to the patient's position, zap him and run back again hoping he has the brains to follow you as he should(This is the only way to simulate dragging with the BF2 engine), worst case scenario(If you manage to revive him) he'll be shot again but this time the momentum will make his body fly into cover and you can revive him successfully. And a tip; when you run to revive, please don't use any fancy legwork, it'll get you killed. Beeline straight to the patient, zap and run. I've run to double Support gunner fire llike that, when I was doing the mambo I was frequently sniped by riflemen with iron sights at 100m.

lol ok thanks guys, I didn't see that thread. I didn't think it would be possible, but thought was worth a go.

thanks tartantyco, that's what I currently do at the moment so I guess I'll just have to get more cover fire.

how do you define fancy legwork btw? Like jumping, going prone etc.? I normally just run straight at them, zap once then spin around and leg it back as fast as possible :)

-Yeah, strafing, going prone, bunny hopping, etc. That'll get you killed. It's always fun when you're shooting at someone a 100m away(Or thereabouts) and they go prone... "Having trouble hitting me? Let me help by lying down motionless over here."

yeah i use smoke a lot too. it can get quite hectic sometimes lost in about 6 smoke grenades (from teammates too) desperately trying to zap as many people as possible.

I like in PR that people don't usually hop about as much or jump and go prone in mid-air. that was really annoying and not really realistic at all.

The problem with smoke grenades is that they can take a while to build up smoke. By the time you manage to pull one out, toss it in the direction of the unconscious teammate, and wait for the smoke to build up, the patient might be very close to expiring.

Also, for some reason, whenever you revive in the middle of a battlefield, the revivee is the first one to go down. I swear, I had situations where people would be shooting at me, and I'd crouch down to revive, motionless, standing there for 2 or 3 seconds, and the guy who got revived would get killed again within a second of me reviving him. Add to that the initial disorientation that you get when you pop back to life, and surviving a revive can be a pain.

Unless... We can make the dead/critically wounded bodies as "vehicles" and someone can "enter" it and it would just be an animation of a soldier dragging the body into safty. Pretty stupid idea, probably not even possible.

Its hardcoded. IBTL.

Medics could get the M203 smoke type in their smoke nades, since the M203 smoke spreads faster, and we dont really need a 5 min lasting curtain of smoke to hop and revive someone.

yeah the GL smoke nads would be a lot better since they're pretty much instant, though you don't want to imbalance medics too much I guess.

means there's gonna be a LOT of smoke :)
